I removed the speedy tag. I'm sure this could be expanded to discuss the ethics of blowouts, and some of the historically significant blowouts in various sports. Here's one possible source. We might even be able to discuss how sports broadcasters deal with blowouts so that the fans don't lose interest. This source might help with that. Zagalejo^^^ 07:03, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Now, there might be some overlap with Garbage time, but we can always work out some sort of merge. Outright deletion seems hasty, though. Let's give this article a chance. Zagalejo^^^ 07:06, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

US-centric

edit

Could the article introduce some evidence that the term "blowout" is used outside North American sports culture? Also, the creators of this may want to read running up the score, for some similar material. Particularly this thread on the talk page, which discusses the stark difference in how such behavior is perceived in and out of North America, i.e., in a soccer blowout across the Atlantic it is considered poor sportsmanship to the put the garbage time players in and/or pull back offensively. I came here to say the same. I've never heard the term in the UK, but was reading about American sport on Reddit and came across 'blowout' and came here to find out what it meant. I think it should mention that it's primarily a US term. Saccerzd (talk) 20:11, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Mercy rule

edit

Isn't there a "mercy" rule in baseball, whereby the game is terminated short at the 7th inning, if one team is leading by 10 or more runs. Tabletop (talk) 21:12, 22 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Similar terms

edit

Surely there are other terms similar in meading to blowout and used in other sports ? Tabletop (talk) 21:17, 22 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Major Laegue baseball

edit

The article for the 1882 Major League Baseball season says, "July 24 – Seven Chicago White Stockings collect at least 4 hits and six score at least 4 runs in Chicago's 35–4 pasting of the Cleveland Blues." Isn't that more lopsided than the 36-7 win in 1897? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arnold Rothstein1921 (talkcontribs) 13:22, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

DeVry College Basketball

edit

I couldn't find this game in the list of blowouts so I thought I might mention it. Troy beat DeVry 258-141 in 1992 , and I thought it might need to be mentioned. I don't know if this has been brought up yet and I missed it but hopefully this can get added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.9.38.105 (talk) 21:16, 10 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
