needs work

edit

This really needs work. I've removed the statement that "Summertime" has lyrics about lynching (if they are about lynching, they are extremely oblique!). I suspect someone got confused with "Strange Fruit". There are a lot of very contentious statements later on in the article (Grant Green as "ersatz Coltrane"?). --Andrew Norman 13:18, Apr 11, 2005 (UTC)

covers

edit

The cover photography and graphics that grace the Blue Note catalogue are an important part of the documentation of popular and jazz music history, and an important ingredient in the design esthetic of that period. If someone is up to it, I think that an essay on the subject should be added.Odysseybookshop 19:07, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

There used to be a section about the covers. There should be one again.
Could someone clarify what "debut recordings for Blue Note" means? Does it mean the artists' first recordings for Blue Note, even if they'd recorded for other labels before? Or does it mean their first albums ever? or does it mean their first albums as leader? The first alternative seems to be the only one that applies to everyone in the list. I added back a covers section. It's a pretty important topic to have on this page. - AKeen 15:24, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to add a video interview with Bruce Lundvall to external links. He is speaking about Blue Note Records. Here is the interview. Ammosh11 22:26, 18 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Norah.jpg

edit

Image:Norah.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I forgot to mention on July 2 - I responded to the above and added fair use rationale on the image, so the Norah Jones album cover is not in danger of deletion at this time. --Parzival418 Hello 18:18, 22 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Improve sourcing and rewrite article

edit

This article needs to be much better sourced and it probably calls for a general re-write. Despite the large number of inline citations, this article is poorly sourced. Many paragraphs lack any citations. Some sentences show three citations at the end. I suspect there is ome original research here, too.

I am reading Richard Cook, Blue Note Records: The Biography (Boston: Justin Charles & Co., 2003). This is a good looking book and could be the go-to source for this article.

Can anyone offer any advice about the structure of the article based on standards for articles about record labels? Does anybody have recommendations for sources? Thanks, Oldsanfelipe2 (talk) 13:48, 20 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
