I assume the tag about libellous material is related to past text no longer included in the article? There are any number of great stories about Diamond's, er, 'singular' approach to dealing with cleaning and catering staff at Barclay's Capital, for instance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.82.180.14 (talk) 22:10, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Jewish?

edit

Someone with an anonymous IP edited the article to add Bob Diamond to the category American Jews. Is this true? I've removed it unless someone can give a source. The only other edit by that IP was to do the same to the article on Marcus Agius -- I've reverted that pending evidence as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.221.185.79 (talk) 18:23, 6 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure how that ties in with a family of "Irish-Catholic values", whatever that means. Figeac (talk) 21:14, 3 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

All the sites I've seen that list him as Jewish (Ashkenazi) are overtly and proudly antisemitic. According to this site -- I don't know if it's good or not, as I'm not familiar with it -- Bob Diamond is NOT Jewish. http://www.thejc.com/business/alex-brummer-business/62936/do-bonuses-fuel-antisemitism tharsaile (talk) 13:56, 10 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yale?

edit

A recent edit added "He is now a senior lecturer at Yale University School of Management" but Diamond's name doesn't appear in the Faculty Directory. A Guardian article says "...after his resignation, Diamond has said little in public, apart from giving the occasional lecture at Yale." but this doesn't necessarily mean he is a senior lecturer. Please feel free to reinstate the claim if a reliable source can be found. Gareth Jones (talk) 21:00, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Also, Robert Diamond’s Next Life in the New York Times, Sorkin states (on Diamond's current/future activities)

"Because of a noncompete agreement with Barclays, Diamond is prevented from starting a new business or going to another company until this summer. But he has been flying all over the world, talking with academic experts and investors, floating his idea of creating a merchant bank that advises and buys stakes in businesses in Africa and Europe. His thesis is that Africa, where he spent the past decade building Barclays Capital and donating much of his family’s foundation money, is going to be one of the fastest-growing regions in the world. And his other thesis is that Europe’s banking system is going to be dismantled, so opportunities to buy pieces on the cheap will be abundant."

rather than mentioning a specific Yale connection. Gareth Jones (talk) 16:01, 13 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Bob Diamond (banker)Robert E. Diamond Jr. – This entry was created as "Robert Diamond" on August 3, 2005 and remained under that main title header for more than six years until it was unilaterally moved to "Bob Diamond (banker)" on October 8, 2011. Although he is indeed frequently referenced as "Bob Diamond", sources such as The New York Times or Barclays itself indicate his name in its full form. Either returning the header to its previous form, "Robert Diamond" or moving it to the full form, "Robert E. Diamond Jr.", would additionally obviate the need for the parenthetical qualifier "(banker)". — Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 07:04, 15 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose per WP:COMMONAME, which says "Bill Clinton (not: William Jefferson Clinton)" News media coverage uses Bob Diamond, eg here. It doesn't say "Robert E. Diamond Jr."--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:21, 15 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose As noted in the !vote above, the subject is most commonly described as Bob in reliable sources. I did a search in Google news for Barclays diamond to see what comes up, and every article over the first two pages uses Bob.--Yaksar (let's chat) 15:08, 15 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose I worked in banking in London for 30 years and even worked for Barclays during Bob's tenure, and I have made changes to this article (I wrote the "Double Dip tax scams" paragraph). I NEVER heard of Bob being referred to as "Robert", and I certainly never referred to him that way. I did hear a guy derisively refer to him as "Bobby Diamond" once. Also, when I first did a Wikipedia search for him, I inserted "Bob Diamond" into the search field. I would imagine 100 out of every 100 people coming to Wikipedia to find an article on him also type out "Bob Diamond". That is simply the way we knew him, and the way he is known now. If this article does get changed to "Robert E. Diamond Jr", then I would hope that if one still typed in "Bob Diamond" in the search box, then this article would be the first one on the resulting search list. Agree that it is like "Bill Clinton" - it is simply the way the world refers to Bob, and how he referred to himself. I might add that if the name of this article is changed because there are multiple "Bob Diamond" articles, then the person who insists ont his should also go insist that all the other "Bob Diamond" (non-banker) articles be changed to the guy's full formal birth name. Why single out our banker "Bob Diamond"???—Preceding unsigned comment added by Betathetapi545 (talkcontribs) 10:11, 16 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment Bob Diamond (banker) gets more views than the other Bob Diamonds. https://pageviews.toolforge.org/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&redirects=0&range=latest-20&pages=Bob_Diamond_(banker)%7CBob_Diamond_(comics)%7CBob_Diamond_(actor)%7CBobby_Dimond There is only one other page called Bob Diamond, the one about the actor, which could be mentioned in a hatnote. I support moving the page to Bob Diamond as the primary topic.Sahaib3005 (talk) 09:10, 18 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Bob Diamond (actor) has recently been moved to Bobby Diamond, so that means the banker is the primary topic (it was probably already the primary topic before the other page was moved, but now it is definitely the primary topic) Sahaib3005 (talk) 20:15, 3 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
