A check up in the CWGC database revealed a Private Robert Richard Edge of the Australian Infantry died aged 45 on 4 April 1918 and is buried at Fovant Churchyard, Wiltshire, having apparently died while serving in the UK. Not only does the age support the life years of our subject but the origins, his parents being named as Robert and Rachel Edge of Wednesfield, Staffordshire.Cloptonson (talk) 09:50, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
- I have just discovered a profile on the Australian soldier, from a booklet on the WWI casualties buried in Fovant Churchyard, it mentions a Robert Richard Edge, father Robert Edge, occupation Professional Footballer, married during the 1890s, its only reference to his sport. The marriage came between the Censuses of 1891 and 1901 when he was recorded occupation Chemist's Assistant. He emigrated to Australia in 1909:
