General
edit- There are several referring to Quinn as "Bob Quinn" which are not necessary and will need addressing
- Also, be consistent in how Port Adelaide is refered to; it must not be refered to as simply "Port"
Lead
edit- On a quick glance, the lead is lacking detail. It could do with some mentioning of Quinn's major achievements throughout his career, his wartime service, and what he did in his post-football career
1933: Debut for Port Adelaide
edit- "On the 6 May 1933, Bob Quinn made his debut for Port Adelaide in Round 2 match of the 1933 SANFL season in a draw against Norwood at Alberton Oval." - reword this sentence to On 6 May 1933, Quinn made his debut for Port Adelaide in a 1933 SANFL season Round 2 match against Norwood at Alberton Oval.
- "he kicked one goal and was named in Port Adelaide's best." - best player?
- "Playing as a rover, Quinn quickly gained a reputation as one of the leading players in South Australia." - this sentence is not referenced
- Wikilink rover to Follower (Australian rules football)#Rover
1934: Quinn vs Colyer
edit- "despite a 131-point win over Glenelg Football Club," - try victory to get more wording variety into the article
- "In the first semi final," - semi final should be hyphenated
1935: Port finish runner up again
edit- "During the 1935 SANFL season Port Adelaide would win the minor premiership but falter in the Grand Final to South Adelaide by 8 points." - this sentence is lacking a reliable citation
- Link 1935 SANFL season
- Wikilink Grand Final to 1935 SANFL Grand Final and South Adelaide to South Adelaide Football Club, respectively
1936: Quinn pulls Port over the line
edit- "and the clubs first since 1928." - link 1928 to 1928 SANFL Grand Final and clubs should be spelt as club's
1937: Back to back and Magarey runner-up
edit- "Generally, the voting Magarey Medal voting is conducted under a 3–2–1 vote system but under a trial," - should be worded as Generally, the voting for the Magarey Medal is conducted under a 3–2–1 vote system but under a trial,
- "polling 36 voyes to Hawke's 37." - votes
1938: First Magarey and Victorian approaches
edit- "In 1938 Quinn was awarded the Magarey Medal" - delink Magarey Medal since its already linked in the previous sub-section
- Geelong will need linking to Geelong Football Club
1939: Captain-coach of Port Adelaide
edit- Bob Maclean needs to be wikilink to the Bob McLean (Australian footballer) article
Return to football (1944–1947)
edit- "Despite serious injuries to his arm, leg, and face Quinn returned to Australia and resumed his footballing career despite early prognosis suggesting he would never play again." - this sentence has no reliable reference
1944: Last year at Port/Torrens
edit- "His return match was the first round of the 1944 season," - link 1944 season to 1944 SANFL season
1945: Quinn & Bunton
edit- "The 1945 SANFL season returned to an eight club competition with all clubs competing in their own right." - wikilink 1945 SANFL season and replace the second clubs with the word teams
- "Quinn started the season with an arm sound sustained in World War II" - Second World War
- "Quinn and Bunton regularly combined during the season to show off their superior" - display
- "three wins clear of clear of second place West Torrens," - should be three wins clear of second place West Torrens,
- "and were firm favorites for the Grand Final," - Grand Final needs to be linked to 1945 SANFL Grand Final
- "After leading early, Port were overtaken by a faster finishing West Torrens who defeated Port Adelaide 15.25 (115) to 15.12 (102)." - This sentence should be written as Example text
1946: Draw in Victoria
edit- "he doctor told Bob that he saw his name" - Quinn
1947: Sporting Life's All-Australian captain and retirement
edit- The entire paragraph in the sub-section is not cited to a reliable source(s)
- "Sporting Life magazine named Bob Quinn as the captain in the first concept of an All-Australian team with only three South Australian's selected in the side." - Sporting Life needs to be italised since it is a print magazine and wikilink All-Australian
Post-football
edit- "deciding instead to move to Kadina in South Australia's Yorke Peninsula to become the proprieter" - proprietor
- "Later in life, Quinn returned to Adelaide and bought the Southwark Hotel, serving as publican there for many years." - sentence is not referenced
Sporting Family
edit- The first paragraph of this sub-section is enterily lacking reliable citation(s)
Reputation
edit- To avoid having one-sentence paragraphs here, you will need to merge paragraphs four and five with each other.
- The same needs to be undertaken to the sixth and seventh paragraphs
- Wikilink Tim Ginever
References
edit- References 2 and 30 are missing the author of the work
- Reference is 18 is dead and will need archiving
- References 30, 35, 38 and 40 need to have the published and access dates rewritten in the format of 28 April 2008 for example
- Reference 34 needs to have the author and the date it was published
- Reference 35 is lacking the published date
- Reference 40 will require the newspaper that published the story, the author who wrote it and the date it was published
Unfortunately, I regret to write that this nomination has failed under the necessary guidelines that GAN is undertaken by. In this case of this particular article, I noted several problems which stand in its way of achieving GA status at this time. Firstly, there are several uncited statements, some uncompleted references that are missing the necessary forms, and there are at least ten one-sentence paragraphs which are discouraged at this level. Also I happened to notice the reptition of some information regarding Quinn's father in the Sporting Family sub-section when it is already mentioned in the early life section. Once they have been significant work put into the article, it can be brought back to GAN. MWright96 (talk) 17:42, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
