Titles indicating respect
editIt's customary among indigenous Australians to show respect for senior members of the community by using the title "Uncle" or "Auntie", irrespective of the subject's actual relationship to the speaker. This article largely follows this custom, which I think is fine. However, it may confuse many other readers, unless a word of explanation is given. That could just take the form of my first sentence above, perhaps made available as a template.
Is there already a template that gives this kind of explanation, that we could include (or "transclude") in this article, and if so, what is it? If not, how does one go about making such a template?
Descriptors
editI'm not sure I like disambiguating him from the other Bob Randalls via a descriptor that focuses on his ethnic origin; it feels similar to having "Sam Roberts" and "Sam Roberts (black)" or some such. Citizenship, yes, but ethnicity? "Indigenous Australian" just feels... wrong, more so than just "Australian".
Maybe if we said "Bob Randall (Yankunytjatjara)" instead? DS (talk) 13:23, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
Date of Birth
editThis article had Randall's year of birth as 1929, based on info from an archival image. Following his sad passing, this ABC article gives his year of birth as approximately 1934. I have used the ABC stat but obviously happy to have that changed if other evidence comes to someone's attention. --Roisterer (talk) 01:25, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
