editSome errors in this texst! Bodø didn't have a airfild before 1940, until then only seaplanes was used to traffic Bodø.
The reason to the british needed was not the need of protection its convoys to Murmansk! During the norwegian campaign the UK was not an allied to the Sovietunion! Therefor the british hardly needed an airfild at Bodø to support convoys! The reason of the buildin of the runway was an atempt to disturbe German air-superiority, which was most important to get munition and supplies to the German forces surounded in the Battle of Narvik. It was common to build runways of wooden board in 1940!
The airfild of 1940 was outdated in 1945. It was not until 1950 that the norwegian defence department decided to build an new and modern airfield for jetfighters. But the new airfield was built at a new location south-west of the old and abandoned runway.
There is a difference between this text and the one concerning the civilian airport. The runway lenght in this text is the previous lenght before the extention in 05/06. The lenght mentioned in the civilian text is correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.48.124.146 (talk) 18:50, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Renamed from Bodø Main Airfield to Bodø Main Air Station. See http://odin.dep.no/fd/engelsk/publ/veiledninger/010051-120161/dok-bn.html for correct names. BsL 1823Z, 2006-01-05
The delivery of the first F-16s to Bodø Main Air Station was in February 1982. I was deployed there with the USAF during Operation Arctic Storm and watched them arrive at end of runway!
