John Houblon

edit

The John Houblon bio says he was elected to parliament for Bodwin but he is not listed here. Tassedethe (talk) 12:32, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well spotted! There is a John Hoblyn listed at the right time-period, so I suspect that they are one and the same person (spelling was still largely optional at that time). I will make a redirect to blue the link. DuncanHill (talk) 12:36, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
In fact this is wrong - the John Hoblyn who was MP for Bodmin was a lawyer and Town Clerk of Bodmin, and definitely not the same person as John Houblon - his biography is in the 1690-1715 volumes of the History of Parliament series. It is the John Houblon page that is wrong, and it seems pretty clear from the Dictionary of National Biography that Houblon was never an MP, even though this "fact" is taken from the Bank of England website. Presumably at some point in the past somebody saw the name "Hoblyn" and added two plus two to make five. I will redirect the link and put up a stub about Hoblyn.
