Boho short for bohemian?
editSure, it's short for bohemian, but it is also a portmanteau of "soho", and maybe even a touch of "hobo" (in the sense of "the lady is a tramp", i.e. good not bad). I haven't looked for a source, so I don't put it in the article, but I know how people use the word, and it doesn't mean bohemian. A bohemian is not high fashion and is frequently not urban; a boho is urban high fashion, but wears ideas borrowed and inspired by bohemian. Chic just indicates that it's the fashion of a moment, bohos are all chic. 74.68.152.245 (talk) 19:34, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
I agree completely, and was surprised to see the Wiki article reference it as short for "Bohemian" as by clicking on "Bohemianism" (or even just "Bohemian") and going to that Wiki article at NO POINT does it provide any abbreviation, much less Boho. In a fashion sense it certainly seems to be a knock on Soho/Noho, etc. I am not sure I would claim that a Bohemian cannot be high fashion, as both the sub-classes of Noveau and Dandy would appear to allow indulgence on high fashion; but certainly the central trait of being outside the conventional certainly seems to run counter to wearing designer labels (unless, perhaps, if purchased in the 2nd hand store, which is hardly how it is portrayed).Wolverine1964 (talk) 13:45, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
Examples?
editI think it would be important to illustrate the style with some photos of some examples. It's not overly clear to me the style that is trying to be described (sounds similar to the style accredited to being popularised by Joss Stone in the UK in 2004/5
Which is why Joss Stone is mentioned, of course. Photos would be excellent if there are any readily available that are not subject to copyright. IXIA 20:58, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Vandalism

Please explain
editWhat do the following unreferenced sentences mean?
"On the 05/12/08, the word boho was also coined and copyrighted to mean anti-hobo, as in a rich, well to do person. Despite that some mayo people claim it to be otherwise" LymeRegis (talk) 17:31, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Meaningless?
editI've read through this article and I still don't have the faintest idea what 'boho chic' means, other than 'clothes worn by female celebrities'. What's more, I'm convinced the fashion writers have no idea either. The sheer range of this alleged trend, as described in this article, suggests that the term is so vague as to be meaningless. Robofish (talk) 23:48, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- The term has been used, is well cited, and is notable. Feel free to improve the article. Lentower (talk) 02:47, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not denying it's a notable term, I just think it's incredibly poorly defined. I guess that's the fault of the fashion writers rather than us, though. Robofish (talk) 13:47, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

UK bias
editI've noticed that this article seems to be very biased towards the UK (particularly with the amount of detail given on the views of The Times and Stylist, and the significance attributed to Sienna Miller's fashion choices). I say that as someone based in the UK myself. Would appreciate if other editors could help to address this bias. Clearly a lot of research has been put into this article but there's not enough credit given to US figures such as Nicole Richie and Rachel Zoe, in my view.
