Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.

Drawdy

edit

Is there also a town called Drawdy, West Virginia in Boone County? Badagnani 07:23, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

There is no real town called Drawdy and no Drawdy post office but the area at the foot of Drawdy Mountain on the Big Coal side of the county is commonly referred to as Drawdy.

Boone County courthouse provides protection of West Virginia and helps the community pass on fine and the courthouse and everyone in it helps the people get by and they don't let them down.

The White Family

edit

I added D Ray White and Jesco White as notable residents of Boone County. Jesco's entry was removed but I replaced it. Jesco White might not be a role model, but he is arguably more well known, for better or for worse, than the others on the list. The "Dancing Outlaw" documentary makes several references to Jesco's Boone County roots, and the Bandytown page also cites him as a notable resident. PurpleChez (talk) 14:48, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I agree, he is possibly, infamous as opposed to famous.....However, is he a historic figure or notable? Sure, he is noted to be a drunk, an addict and a clogger...I do not quite understand the zeal some have to perpetuate a stereotype....I am sure there are hundrreds of pages on Wikipedia that should have famous people on them, that could of course be construed as insulting...let me help oyu, Henry Earl of lexington KY has been arrested over 1,000 times for drunkeness in Public. Lets put him on the county page. Because everyone knows, Henry is the best thing they have. In fact, lets link up some of the external porn sites and racial bigotry sites that use Henry as an example. Now we can cook with grease. Imagine the pride you would feel. OR how about PA????? Yes, lets all post picsa and links to known felons of any people from PA especially political ones in the judicial system and claim, thats the best and notable from there. How about that? OR how about we go to the individual jail sites of each poor county in the US and post pics on the county page of the pedophiles, and drunkards and dope addicts etc etc, CAN YOU FEEL THE PRIDE?Coal town guy (talk) 14:55, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Whoa... It's not about pride...it's about facts. I was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. If you pull up the Harrisburg article you'll see that Newt Gingrich was also born there. I, personally, consider Newt Gingrich to be an embarassment, but I'm not going to remove his name from that list because of it. A wikipedia page isn't supposed to be about local pride or civic boosterism...it's about facts, including unpleasant ones.... PurpleChez (talk) 15:53, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
How about Newts gay daughter and his shame of her? Isnt that a fact? How about the night clubs I bounced at and recall with great glee? Yes, that is certainly Notable. HOWEVER, I will not tread on the shred of dignity that may reside in any geographic place. Even the totally empty airport in illustrious Harrisburg or its economic juggernaut called Strawberry square where over 1/2 of the retailers do not make their rent OR the Patriot Paper where I would find SPELLING ERRORS on the FRONT PAGE every week...its a factCoal town guy (talk) 16:01, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
You've got some issues, my brother. First off...you're thinking about Newt's sister, not his daughter. And I know this because she was one of my best friends from junior high and high school. And he's not ashamed of her...in Candace's words, they have long-since "agreed to disagree." I am trying really, really hard, but I don't understand how the nightclubs on 2nd Street or typos in the Patriot-News or occupancy rates at Strawberry Square have anything to do with Jesco White being well-known.PurpleChez (talk) 16:28, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
OH, I see. You mean the facts about Newts family, and the facts about the nighclubs she went to, and the facts about the retail establishments and the facts about the multiple spelling errors in a syndicated paper in a states Cap cause you an emotional reaction that you dont like as you feel they may portray a place as less than reputable..BUT its all good with Jesco and his Notable stature in Boone county...I see now. I totally understand...We would not want to disappoint anyone, everyone knows that humiliation and shame in PA and far far removed from WV....They apparently dont have them there.Coal town guy (talk) 16:38, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Would you mind rephrasing that as a sentence? PurpleChez (talk) 16:58, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I mean, an actual coherent one? ...one with punctuation and which at least approximates the rules of grammar? I can't even follow half of what you're saying.... Seriously.... PurpleChez (talk) 17:00, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
SURE, you are OK with Jesco White being Notable, BUT you seem to not like the Notable facts about Newt hating his gay sister or that there are illiterates at the City Paper, all of which take place in a booming economy.....Coal town guy (talk) 17:09, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
ARE YOU SMOKING CRACK??? Newt doesn't hate his sister. If he did, I would accept it as a matter of fact, BUT HE DOESN'T!!! And if he did, what does that have to do with Jesco White? And at no point did I say that I was "OK" with anything having to do with the Patriot-News. BTW...given some of your preceding comments I would be hesitant to rant too much about typos. PurpleChez (talk) 17:18, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
It seems to me that Jesco White is notable for more than just his excesses. He has an article with sources. I can see no reason to exclude him from a list of notable natives. Omnedon (talk) 17:21, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank the maker...a coherent comment.... PurpleChez (talk) 17:27, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
It is insulting to make a person being notable ESPECIALLY when it does nothing more than perpetuate ignorant stereotypes.......sadly, this standard is not applied to all places on Wiikipedia.Coal town guy (talk) 17:37, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
How is he not notable? In any case, he is simply mentioned in a list, not described. Omnedon (talk) 17:40, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I am sorry that some people look down on Appalachia and Coal Country. But, Coal town guy, you seem to hold onto a degree of victimization that goes worlds beyond any reasonable limit. I'm sorry that some people live and die in anonymity. I'm sorry that the buildings are run down. I'm sorry that the old folks die. And I'm sorry that I can't fix it.PurpleChez (talk) 18:03, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I am not angry at you or anyone. I am asking, as kindly as I can to consider the following: I have taught kids how to use a browser, how to build web pages, how to cruise the web, and these kids grew up in places, poor places, very poor. Yes, they know Jesco. They also know the un ending scorn, that people use on them, thanks to the outside world, making him a Notable person...I left WV, a while back, and nopw I have retunred in a virtual fashion to document places that through no fault are going away. Do you want the general populace to think of Boone County and read about its Notable Native, Jesco White? and feed the stereotype, and treat kids from their like ignorant inbred hicks?? I dont. Again, its just an Encyclopedia, I forget at times that one can be Notable in so many different ways.....Coal town guy (talk) 18:13, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hey Coal town guy, do you understand the point of Wikipedia? It's about facts, not your foolish opinions. Nobody cares if you think that Jesco White is perpetuating certain stereotypes, that's totally irrelevant. The question is whether or not he is a notable Boone County resident, which he, of course, is. Hey PurpleChez, don't you know that it's pointless to argue with stupid/crazy people? They bring you down to their level, then beat you with experience.Booshmen (talk) 18:23, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, its a fact. I can become an addict, dance, sing about fighting and fucking and be Notable.....WHILE showing the whole world, what a GREAT place Boone County is.........AND here is the kicker, people who have NEVER been there, get to learn, that the mighty standard of fame in Boone County WV is, get addicted, sing about fighting and fucking, and get filmed while you do it....BRAVOCoal town guy (talk) 18:18, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
WOW, this guy is totally fucking nuts. You need help Coal Town Gay. Booshmen (talk) 18:31, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I meant 'guy', not 'gay'.Booshmen (talk) 18:35, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Careful, "Booshman"...on Wikipedia you can get sanctioned for abusive language. Check yourself before you wreck yourself. PurpleChez (talk) 18:57, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think this guys stream of consciousness has been dammed up by beavers. Or else he's inhaled too much coal dust. Ironically, with his incoherent writing and impossible to follow logic about perpetuating stereotypes, Coal town guy has pertetuated far more stereotypes than Jesco White EVER could. Booshmen (talk) 19:16, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Booshmen, I would also warn you. Please, no personal attacks, and be civil. Omnedon (talk) 19:24, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think I am very clear here. I think, I am sorry I ever questioned the true celebrity status of Jesco White. I am dis engaging from any edits on this page. Personal attacks, not pretty, and easily reportable. Funny thing is, while they are deleted by the offending party , I can always just get a diff on the history...love all the deletions after the really nasty language. Well, I learned alot today. Thanks allCoal town guy (talk) 19:29, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
And making up nonsense about Newt Gingrich "hating his gay daughter" wasn't nasty? I sense a major persecution complex.... And, to be totally blunt, you're not very clear...I sincerely can't follow much of what you've written. PurpleChez (talk) 19:38, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
