The Borborites are also mentioned by Michael the Syrian, and a century later by Bar Hebraeus (Chronicon Ecclesiasticum, i. 219). Michael may have got his information from Epiphanius of Salamis, but Bar Hebraeus claims to have got his from 'Abu Rahian, the wise Persian of Bairunia'. Maybe worth following up.
