Influencing Clapton, etc
editThis is something that has become garbled over time.
Albert King was one of those artists that influenced British Blues.
But THIS ALBUM was released five years after British Blues started, and long after British Blues had become arguably the major pop music format (aka "The Rolling Stones" etc).
The wiki page cites AMG where Stephen Erlewine states about "Born Under a Bad Sign":
"..allowing to him to unleash a torrent of blistering guitar runs that were profoundly influential, not just in blues, but in rock & roll (witness Eric Clapton's unabashed copping of King throughout Cream's Disraeli Gears)."
Again, this is confusing King influencing Clapton with "Born Under a Bad Sign" influencing Clapton and "Disraeli Gears" - which is obviously impossible because Disraeli Gears was recorded before the release of Born Under a Bad Sign.
Oops !
I haven't bothered to edit the wiki page, because it just points to the AMG page which would be a lot harder to correct.
1000 years would be too short to correct all the lazy errors in the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.122.69.141 (talk) 20:50, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- but many of the tracks of Born Under A Bad Sign were released before as a single,so before Disraeli Gears 62.98.138.76 (talk) 15:59, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
Homer Simpson
editAs funny as it is I'm afraid I have to delete this. Homer Simpson isn't an artist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trefalcon (talk • contribs) 19:13, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

What about a Disambiguation page?

- I've added a disambiguation link to the top of the article. Unless there are more pages to disambiguate, I think it is enough. Fbergo 15:37, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Done
Recording and music
edit- But outside of his 1962 song "Don't Throw Your Love on Me So Strong", he had yet to find any commercial success → what kind of commercial sucess are we talking about here?
- Born Under a Bad Sign is an electric blues album, with influences of soul and funk → soul blues if covered by a source must be added here
- Description of the sample is very poor "Sixteen second sample with refrain" → An 16-seconds sample of "Born Under a Bad Sign", where King sings the chorus.
- "His guitar genius wasn’t expressed by the number of notes and chords he could string together but instead was distinguished by the endless variations he could coax out of a few basic blues building blocks. His simple but subtle reconfigurations were accomplished through inflections, emphasis, and timing, not via sprinting through scales.” → use your words more often is given a copyvio strike.

Release and reception
edit- Born Under a Bad Sign was released in August 1967 → by who?
- "Born Under a Bad Sign" → wikilink the song with date between bracks, do the same for the other songs.

Legacy
edit- It has been inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and the Grammy Hall of Fame → years?
- "King's first album for the Stax label combines his hard, unflashy guitar playing with the sleek sound of the label's house band, Booker T. and the MG's. Hits such as 'Crosscut Saw' and 'Laundromat Blues' earned King a new rock & roll audience." → use your own words more often
- King recorded several more albums for Stax over the next few years, including Years Gone By (1969), I'll Play the Blues for You (1972), and I Wanna Get Funky (1974) → not revelant

- You can adress the issues. Just let me know when you are finished. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 01:07, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- @MarioSoulTruthFan: Alrighty, took care of everything except for the the track listing issue, I'm not sure how to say that is the standard version. Also regarding the soul blues thing, I could't find any source that makes a direct claim that Born Under a Bad Sign is a soul blues album, so I just got rid of it. Famous Hobo (talk) 02:58, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Famous Hobo: Well, taking into consideration the year of the album release that's something that is not necessary. But I was taking a secod look, Side 1 and Side 2 is from vyniland if so, do you have the inlay notes from where you took it? You did well by removing it. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 17:18, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
- @MarioSoulTruthFan: Does the track listing look good now? Also, sorry for the double ping, but I wanted to make sure you saw the change from compilation to studio album. Famous Hobo (talk) 14:40, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

- @Famous Hobo: It is a compilation album , so don't chage it. Look at the comment below by Ojorojo. Perhaps using the All Music source when you first call it a compilation album in the body of the article so it doesn't rise questions wouldbn't be a bad idea at all. Anyway, thanks for the comments @D1119: and @Ojorojo:. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 17:05, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- @MarioSoulTruthFan: Added a hidden note in the lede. Famous Hobo (talk) 17:18, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Famous Hobo: I took a look at your hidden note, it is great work. I made a small change see if you are ok with it. If so, I will pass it. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 17:28, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- @MarioSoulTruthFan: Works for me. There's a user (I'm forgetting their name) who's adamant about including the rolling stone 500 ref in the lede. I've don't understood why, but it's never really bothered me. Famous Hobo (talk) 18:23, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

Compilation album?
editWhy is this classified as a compilation album? I've never heard it referred to like that before. D1119 22:00, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- @D1119: Sorry about the wait, I just saw this comment. I could have sworn one of the sources called it a compilation album, but I can't find it. So I'm just going to edit it to call it a normal studio album. @MarioSoulTruthFan: This is also something you should be aware of. Famous Hobo (talk) 14:26, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- It meets the normal definition of a compilation album: eight songs on the album (out of 11) were previously released as singles and recorded over 15 months; a studio album is usually recorded and released as "a single work". Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote is his AllMusic review "Initially, these sessions were just released as singles, but they were soon compiled as King's Stax debut, Born Under a Bad Sign. [emphasis added]" —Ojorojo (talk) 15:06, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
it is not a compilation album:it is the first Albert King LP, like many blues albums of the '50/'60 collects songs released before as singles, but it doesn't mean it is a compilation album — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.98.138.76 (talk) 14:16, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
