Page Update
editI nominate this page for a thorough clean up and sort out, there is many key elements missing from the area of Boscombe, no photos, very few essential links. New developments such as the demolition of the pier and the construction of the artificial reef have been missed out, and these will be the centre of life in Boscombe in a few years. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gizzah (talk • contribs) 18:14, 23 April 2007 (UTC).
Bos Vegas
editI notice that references to the slang name for Boscombe : Bos Vegas have been consistently removed from the Boscombe article, This cannot presumably be because this is a slang term, since that would mean "Brum" could not be refered to in the article on Birmingham. The extent of the usage and the quality of reference might be argued but a google search certainly brings up plenty of examples of its use and in this context I would assert that the urban dictionary is relevant. There seems to be a danger here of a form of censorship. - I don't doubt that Bos Vegas is a genuine slang name for Boscombe but it shouldn't be included in this article unless it is supported by a reliable source. I carried out a quick google search for "bos vegas" boscombe and it just brings up urban dictionary, a handful of blogs, self-published websites and youtube video descriptions etc (none of them are reliable). The entries on urban dictionary are submitted and rated by anonymous users so it doesn't qualify (there are several archived discussions about urban dictionary at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard). Therefore the paragraph that currently includes this name in the article could be considered original research. Barret (talk) 18:44, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Dorset WikiProject assessment - proposed change
editI propose changing the Dorset WikiProject's 'importance' rating of this article from 'High' to 'Mid', the reason being that Boscombe is only a suburb of Bournemouth, and as such few people outside of the Bournemouth area will be familiar with it. As the importance rating currently stands, Boscombe is considered more important than Christchurch, Bridport and Blandford Forum, which can't be right. PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 22:39, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Makes sense to me.Phil Whiston (talk) 12:05, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
- No objections raised, so I've changed it. PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 20:34, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
LOL
editI read on the news that Boscombe got a TARDIS today. I didn't know anything about Boscombe, so looked at Wikipedia - and laughed when I read this dry comment about its local spring: "The water was sufficiently foul-tasting that people would make a special trip to drink the water for any health-giving properties that it may contain." Very nicely put. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.114.109.177 (talk) 22:48, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- As that sentence (still in 9 yrs later) is unreferenced, I would be tempted to delete it but I would want to give others chance to check if what has been published about the local spring water would support or contradict the description.Cloptonson (talk) 15:49, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

Boscombe Cottage/Shelley Manor
editLooking into the history of Shelley Manor, virtually all sources (and this article) give the builder of Boscombe Cottage as Phillip Norris, with 1801 as the date of construction. But I've found that Cary's New itinerary of 1798 mentions that: Beyond Poole, on r[ight] is Boscombe Cottage, Christopher Norris, Esq.
- John Cary (1798). Cary's New itinerary; or, An accurate delineation of the great roads ... throughout England and Wales; with many of the principal roads in Scotland [&c.]. the author. p. 675.
I suppose this could refer to a different structure, but as Boscombe Cottage is usually given as the first building in the area, it may be worth noting here and in the Shelley Manor article if/when that appears. --Hillbillyholiday talk 08:08, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
