Infobox?
editThe infobox for the orchestra is, in my view, just about completely useless. "Associated acts"? What on earth would they be for an orchestra, even though those listed would qualify in this specific case? And are the only members of the orchestra those listed here? Of course not. That template was designed for pop performers; the consensus at the classical music project here in WP-land has been to remove these boxes. I will do so unless there is a huge outcry within the next day or two. --Wspencer11 (talk to me...) 23:20, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Erich Leinsdorf and President Kennedy Assassination
editWould it be inappropriate to include a copy of the audio clip from November 22, 1963 where conductor Erich Leinsdorf announces to the audience that President Kennedy has been assassinated. I feel that this is a significant event in the history of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. TheGoofyGolfer (talk) 17:30, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
weasel words
edit" ...the orchestra developed a reputation for a "French" sound which persists to some degree to this day."
I think "to some degree" would qualify as weasel wording used to suggest something without substantiating it.
Merge
editSomeone has suggested that the Boston Pops article be merged with that of the BSO. Let me go on record as saying this is a terrible idea. While the two orchestras are closely related, the Pops has its own artistic identity and separate history. It certainly needs its own article. Further, the Pops article on its own is quite long. Merging with the BSO would make an article of unwieldy length. Cheers, Markhh (talk) 23:37, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Agree that this is a bad idea, the link between the two is sufficiently clear in this article.Pincrete (talk) 11:17, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
- Agree with above. In my mind, as a Boston resident, the Pops are more popular than the BSO, mostly due to the 4th of July show, but also due, again, in my opinion, it's colorful and famous conductors like Arthur Fiedler, John Williams and Keith Lockhart. No merge. --TUFKAAP (talk) 15:54, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Inadequate
editThis stub of an article lacks any information about management. I know almost nothing about non-profits and the music industry. Oh, wait: if BSO is a non-profit you won't find out here. If is for-profit, then generally there must be a management structure with legal responsibilities. Oh, wait we have no idea how many people work for it. If it is a non-profit, then does it have a trust? a board of directors? I came to this article because another WP article mentioned that someone was an "overseer". Don't know what that means, if it still means anything. Assets? Income? No. of performances per yr? etc. Really a very poor article, and I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a whole lot more information easily available (at least in Bahstan). Too bad no one seems to care enough.174.130.70.61 (talk) 08:38, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
