What Drinks
editI can't find a decent citation for what drinks are good for bottle-keep — i.e., what alcoholic drinks are good for what period of time, once they've been opened. I've googled around, but I've found discussions only of liquor— not even mentioning sake! I wonder if there's a general article in Wikipedia about this topic, but my poking around hasn't turned anything up. Discussing "what stays good once it's been opened" just on this entry would seem misplaced. Be bold and add references to stuff. —sburke@cpan.org (talk) 23:49, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
Drinks Actually Used For Bottle-Keep
editWhat drinks do people actually/typically/normally use as bottle-keep? Just sake? Do exotic and/or expensive things impress people, or do they make them think you're bonkers? "Yes, this is my favorite mead, could you bottle-keep it?" Having info in the entry would be much appreciated. —sburke@cpan.org (talk) 23:52, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
Origination
editQuestions to answer for the page, as they occur to me: Who + where + when did bottle-keep originate? (I would guess "Japan, obviously!", but ya never know.) If outside Japan, when did it get there? Does it exist elsewhere? (Korea, maybe?) —sburke@cpan.org (talk) 23:59, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
Similar Practices
editJust a passing thought: In different places, past or present, have there been services similar to bottle-keep? I have the dimmest memory from a French Medieval Studies class that I took decades ago, that in (medieval) restaurant-taverns, if you were a regular, they would have a plate just for you (well, a board, but anyway). But googling turns up no references. —sburke@cpan.org (talk) 00:01, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
Merge to Izakaya
edit- Oppose The service Bottle keep is not limited to Izakaya. It is offered by various restaurants such as Bar, Sushi restaurant, Soba restsurant and so on. ―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 23:31, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

- Citations? Evidence? References? Proof? Please provide a reliable source that says the service Bottle keep is limited to Izakaya. Otherwise, the merge to Izakaya is not appropriate.―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 23:43, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

- Support - there is not enough to form a Wikipedia article, the sourcing is very weak, and it can be merged into Izakaya without any great loss. JoshuSasori (talk) 00:29, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- We don't have a generic "alcohol consumption in Japan" article. That would be an ideal target. On the other hand, the lack of such an article should not mean splitting every single minor quirk of Japanese drinking culture out to its own substub. The merged content can easily note that the facility is available in other establishments as well. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 10:02, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

- Note the merge was performed on 26 July, but I have undone it. There were sources in the article that said it is not limited to izakaya. I have added a further source to show that it is not even limited to Japan any more. I think this is notable enough for an article. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 02:54, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- I had completed the merge, but have no objection to the reversion given the interesting citation to the trend developing beyond Japan. However, when you reverse a merge, remember to remove the merge template ... (I have now done so). Klbrain (talk) 17:07, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
