Compare:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bottom_%28BDSM%29 In Japanese bondage, a bottom is referred to as uke, a term from kabuki.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bottom_%28sex%29 In sexually-themed anime and manga, especially shounen-ai and yaoi, a bottom is referred to as uke, a term from martial arts.
The information does not appear to be consistent. Zanaq

Thank You. I didn't change it because I don't speak japanese. I just noticed the inconsistency.
on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Japanese_bondage someone contributes. About the term uke: this is second-hand, based on reading Usenet -- I believe it is a re-use of the martial arts term -- again, is the authentic, or Western misinterpretation?
This would lead me to believe the term originated from kabuki.
however there seems to be a page on uke that I missed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uke which seems to agree with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aikido Zanaq
- In Japanese bondage, a bottom is referred to as uke, a term from martial arts.
Uke is used mostly in yaoi but seldom in real life. An uke in yaoi may also be tied up, but it is not a bondage term per se. You are more likely to call the sub/bottom M, which is short for masochist.
Uke in yaoi also has neither to do with Kabuki nor martial arts, it's really just a word for receiver. This is why I cut the martial arts part from bottom (sex), and the whole uke reference from this article. -- 62.224.138.18 20:14, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Reversing the merger
editThis merger was to highly contra productive. The Spanish, Italian, Dutch and German articles clearly show that at least Switch, Top (BDSM) and Bottom (BDSM) are relevant single lemmata. Literature given there proofs this as well. Additionaly the merger was not tagged as described in Wikipedia:Merging and moving pages. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bottom (BDSM) was absolutely ignored.
The argument about this being an "good compare-and-contrast article" is doesn't make any sense. I would like to see what would happen if merged capitalism&communism into an "compare-and-contrast article" deleting the original ones only because nobody answered to my merger ideas. Its really strange that there was allegedly no response to the pre-merger suggestions, nevertheless even the smallest amount of thoughtfulness should have prevented this. The intention to merge homosexual and BDSM topics in order to "compare-and-contrast" them while deleting the source article is at least original research if not POV. --Nemissimo 12:31, 26 September 2007 (UTC)--Nemissimo 12:34, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Picture
editI removed a picture as apparently most people think it is not appropriate. If others think it is, they can put it back, of course. Flyingbird (talk) 11:36, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
