Species or subspecies?

edit

See Pennant's colobus - Bouvier's is still described as a subspecies of Procolobus pennantii there. What is the current state of things then? - Once that is established, these two articles will have to be brought into parallel and linked up. --Elmidae (talk) 08:40, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

The two articles are in agreement. From Pennant's colobus: "Three subspecies of this red colobus are traditionally recognized... However, Groves (2007) raised P. p. epieni, and P. p. bouvieri to P. epieni and P. bouvieri, respectively." Since no one has challenged his assessment since, it is cosnidered the current understanding. --ThaddeusB (talk) 22:22, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
OK, then the various mentions of P. p. (subspecies) in the other paragraphs of Pennant's colobus need to be adjusted (particularly for the mentions of Bouvier's rediscovery), preferably before this goes out to DYK (if so). I'll see to it later today. --Elmidae (talk) 11:02, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
I have now tried to create a consistent usage across this article, Pennant's colobus and Niger Delta red colobus (i.e. bouvieri and epieni treated as separate species in a genus Piliocolobus, following Groves 2007).-- Elmidae (talk) 15:18, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks for doing so. --ThaddeusB (talk) 20:59, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
