merger?

Box is a rambling article which is is really just a disambiguation page with mostly links to main articles. It needs to be cleaned up but, better yet, it should be merged into Box (disambiguation). I suspect there were no comments because few editors watch this page. Box seems to have a clear primary topic, and the best page to occupy the base name is a broad-concept article as we had previously. Certes (talk) 10:31, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

I made a good start at merging two confusing articles and asked for other editors to make further improvements. No improvements were offered, just large reverts of everything; no discussion. Please explain.

We are back to two disambiguation pages, both of which are poorly written. If you want to make a positive contribution, please fix both of them. If you do not want to make improvements, then let the rest of us make valid attempts.

What I see is a poorly thought off proposal what was rushed through without proper discussion. And I see a very rude, condescending remark like "Welcome to the party but it is over." Clearly, you are not intending to start a serious discussion. I hope it is not your intention to start an editwar and recreate 200+ links to disambiguation pages as you did before. There is clearly room for a disambiguation article Box (disambiguation). After all, the surnames, the villages, the films, etc. are clearly not containers used for storage or transportation of their contents.

The article Box should limit itself to exactly that, though. Electrical boxes, post boxes, PO boxes, call boxes, jury boxes, check boxes, set-top boxes, window boxes, box seats, etc. don't belong there. They may be box-shaped, but they aren't used for storage or transportation. They don't belong in the Box article (or even in its See also section).

A soapbox may literally be a box, but it isn't being used as a box.

There are a few limit cases, where it's unclear whether the thing is a box. Do objects with drawers, doors, and inserts (like many toolboxes and jewelry boxes) belong in the box article? Unclear.

We certainly need a dab. The question is whether we also need a broad-concept article about this type of storage container (which I support), or whether that topic is adequately covered by a list of dab entries such as Cardboard box. As an aside, if we decided against an article, then the dab would be called simply Box; Box (disambiguation) would be malplaced. Certes (talk) 20:26, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

It seems pretty clear to me that there is a general concept of box as container. The article doesn't have to be a dab page for it to contain many sections referring to {{main}} articles. --Macrakis (talk) 20:57, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

The Box article is currently a mix of container information but also much other material on unrelated subjects and links. It would be best if Box was only related to the primary subject of Containers and packages. All other box related links should be on the Box Disambiguation Page. One option might be to rename Box as “Box (container)" to clarify the content to readers.Pkgx (talk) 02:53, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

Per WP:QUALIFIER, the question there is whether the container is a primary topic for "Box", or whether the tree, sport, etc. are common enough for us to move the dab to the base name. Certes (talk) 12:29, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
