[Simpsons Reference]
editRemember homer said he was gonna have a box social, you nerds should put that it was referenced in the simpsons —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.166.94.85 (talk) 21:26, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- I deleted the section about the 'Coles box social' because it was pointless and stupid. Please do not edit the article just to include that the term was once used on the Simpsons, because that is also pointless and stupid. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.138.51.200 (talk) 18:06, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
I added a "in pop culture" segment including the Simpsons reference and one from the Gilmore girls. I think it helps, I was googling box social because I saw it on the Simpsons and this will help the box social page to pop up in case anyone wants to know what one is. --64.230.76.208 (talk) 21:39, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
British usage
editI don't believe this is true: "Within the university environment, a box social can be an annual social gathering for a sports club or society where people dress up as boxes." Googling British university websites for "box social" site:ac.uk gives one reference to Oklahoma! (the American meaning of box social) but nothing else even vaguely relevant. I can't find any citations for the Victorian British usage either, but haven't looked as hard. --Maltelauridsbrigge (talk) 16:48, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'm British and have never heard the term 'box social' used in British English. Usage seems to be exclusively American despite unreffed claims to the contrary in the lede. --Ef80 (talk) 16:31, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
Tone
editThe first section of this article seems to be written in an unencyclopedic tone - it seems little more than a(n unfunny) joke. Particularly, the purported 'Roman' "pyxis socialis" sounds like it's been made up. It needs to be backed up with a reputable citation or it should be removed. - What does "unencyclopedic tone" mean? tt —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.120.68.106 (talk) 03:11, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
