Punches cameraman?

edit

I've seen the episode with the interview with the Daytona Beach wrestlers (Season 2, Episode 6 of the HBO show), and although the person being interviewed does get very angry and push the microphone away, there's no evidence that he then punches the camera man. Maybe its featured on another show, or some extras segment... Can anyone provide a link or more information about this? -- Mfv2 22:09, 14 October 2005 (UTC).Reply

I have seen this episode as well, and at least in the American DVD release, the wrestler does NOT punch the camera man. I'm also fairly positive that's not shown in any of the extras, either. Unless the punch is shown in a UK release of the show, that information is incorrect and should be removed. --Alex 01:29, 18 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

When Sacha Cohen was on the Conan O'Brien show they discussed the skit and Conan asked what happened after that, as the episode ended abruptly. Sacha responded that the kid grabbed the camera and punched the camaraman in the face.

Origins

edit

I don't have exact dates but I know that Bruno was first used for short skits as filler on the Paramount Comedy Channel in the UK (this is also how 'Trigger Happy TV' began). I'm not sure of the exact dates but it seems that this would warrant a mention.

Yes this is correct. It would be useful if someone could dig up information on this. Timb0h 12:59, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

They were shown in 1998, thus predating both Ali G and Borat. Maybe they are on youtube?

They were shown in 1998 on Paramount comedy Channel. Definitely. I've added the information. Enough of us remember this. WP:AGF would apply in this case --90.192.92.142 15:36, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Gay TV

edit

I did not watch the Gay TV episode but don't you think it is a little different than exposed homophobia when people who are OK to talk to a clearly homosexual Bruno before TV cameras get upset when they are told that they would be on Gay TV? As I said I did not watch the episode but what is written in the article suggests that Bruno tells them of their appearence in Gay TV with a tone implying some sort of sexual objectification for the Gay audience. If that is really so, without condoning physical attacks, I would find the wrestlers' getting upset much more understandable than Sacha Cohen's behaviour who after all makes a living by making fools of unsuspecting people. I think either that part of the incidence should be made clearer or a more impartial tone should be adopted for describing Sacha Cohen's comedy. 150.216.151.84 20:40, 5 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

That "part of the incidence" is already clear enough. Since you haven't seen the episode, you have no way of knowing what "tone" Bruno used, so your objection is in bad faith. There are plenty of other implications here beside "some sort of sexual objectification." BarrettBrown 18:43, 19 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

is "excruciatingly uncomfortable-to-watch" npov?

NO, it's not npov.173.48.62.136 (talk) 00:15, 11 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Name correction suggestion

edit

His name is in fact Brüno with a "ü". this should be changed.. His part of the Ali G show is called "Funkyzeit mit Brüno" where it's clearly shown with the letter ü. Electrohead 10:48, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Season 1 ep 3

edit

im sorry but i have reveiwed that episode and i dont see the part mentioned here about the marc jacobs show and gisele bundchen, could someone please clairify as that seems like a glaring error, i do remember seeing those scenes before but the bruno segment in the "politics" episode is some manhattan catwalk fashion event KarlJohannes 08:10, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

7-inch schlong?

edit

Bruno never mentions this in any episode. This is an Ali G characterization. I believe it should therefore be removed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.98.238.3 (talk) 01:34, 14 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

Requested move 2007

edit
The following is a closed discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Bruno (Sacha Baron Cohen character)Bruno (character) — Name is extremely difficult to spell out and is overly specific; there are no other popular "Bruno" characters, so adding the actor behind it is over-disambiguation. Request that it just be moved back to the regular "character" title, or somewhere else, I don't care. Hbdragon88 23:58, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Survey - in support of the move

edit
  1. Support much simpler and in the event that Cohen allows usage of the character by other actors, we're covered. 205.157.110.11 22:20, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Survey - in opposition to the move

edit
  1. May I suggest instead Bruno (Da Ali G Show) as a possible move target? There are undobutedly other "Bruno's" out there. Bruno the Kid comes readily to mind. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 23:39, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
That would be covered by the disambiguation page Bruno. Looking at the move logs, some users didn't like "Da Ali G" because the character would soon be moving out to other shows. Hbdragon88 02:50, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Didn't Bruno used to say: "auf der kampf" or "to the camp with it" or something similar? --Soetermans 07:41, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Movie

edit

The Bruno movie is listed on IMDB with release date and status. I added a note to that effect in the "Movie" section. For sake of preserving the debate over its status, I did not delete that section. However, it may need additional rewriting.Mzmadmike (talk) 15:49, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Bruno.jpg

edit

Image:Bruno.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:19, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

All promotional materials for the film list his name with the umlaut. Regardless of how his name was spelled on the TV show, we should use the most recent spelling with the umlaut. ShadowUltra (talk) 00:34, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

The Guardian and Rotten Tomatoes

edit

These reviews are for the Bruno Movie, not specifically the character, who has appeared also in Da Ali G Show. So, i've removed this part.173.48.62.136 (talk) 02:42, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Removed bit

edit

I've removed some of the section "Character Backstory":

The choice of Austria as the country of origin for the character does not appear to be based on any specific real or perceived characteristics of Austrian people, but more on most victims' unfamiliarity with Austria. To someone with a limited knowledge of other countries, or someone who may already have misconceptions about foreigners, Europeans, or gay men, Brüno's ludicrous appearance, behaviour and announcements may appear initially plausible, and may reinforce stereotypes. This is the same strategy as when Cohen makes the Borat character a national of Kazakhstan (like Austria, a large country but one not prominent on the world stage), but actually gives him characteristics of a range of cultural backgrounds, with little relation to real Kazakhs.

It isn't cited, and seems very much like Original Research to me. I think that its good stuff but, as an analysis and interpretation, it needs to be cited to that reliable source that noted these things. If someone could provide a source for these statements, I will happily self-revert, but if one cannot be found, i am afraid that cannot include it. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 07:27, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually, the stuff isn't so great. His repeated references to Hitler in the film, (what does he, that this is the second time that the world turned on the greatest Austrian for trying new things?) is his focus on specifically the country of Austria. Actually, do his references to Hitler in the movie (they really weren't in the tv show much, were they?) deserve a section, comparing\contrasting with Borat's antisemitism?--64.193.79.137 (talk) 08:20, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I hesitate to complain about someone's efforts to write something constructive, 64anon, but I do agree that there is an issue as to whether we are talking about the character of Bruno or instead about Sasha Cohen's method of characterizations. Maybe the section (if cited) might be better off in the actor's article. Thoughts? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 09:14, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is there any source for the reference to "increasing" his "security detail". This is a British comedian, not a Hollywood megastar/royalty. I doubt he has any security at all.124.197.15.138 (talk) 08:49, 20 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ayman Abu Aita

edit

Ayman Abu Aita appears to also be a representative of the Fatah party, as well as a "Christian charity worker". [http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=103797] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.23.247.15 (talk) 20:47, 23 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

In the section on Ayman, the commentary states "....where he made reference to Ayman Abu Aita whom Brüno comically interviewed in the movie as a terrorist." The movie is never referenced directly, so would recommend either adding the actual movie reference or re-worcing this section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.80.188 (talk) 18:24, 27 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

The Ayman Abu Aita material has some serious WP:BLP issues. As of this writing, it makes claims about his affiliations which are not supported by the sources. Also one of the sources is a World Net Daily article - see WP:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_38#World_Net_Daily.--Larrybob (talk) 19:37, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Should the words "Gay Austrian" really link to Adolf Hitler? Is it something from movie or is it vandalism? Aratiti (talk) 11:54, 10 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

It's just stuck in there while the film Brüno isn't even mentioned in the article and has its own page. Meanwhile that film's page doesn't even mention this review here cited. 2600:100E:BE1A:2EA2:9C88:4A7A:7078:793C (talk) 07:13, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
