Race

edit

Other critics point out that the show paints a picture that only white children are bratty. - I think it paints a picture that only white parents don't know how to deal with bratty kids.  :-/ John Barleycorn

I'm white, and I think the stereotypes in the article are racist. Scott Gall 07:39, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
I removed the whole Controversy section and the link to the Criticism against brat camp as it is not reliable. This I did with the support of this section of the rules: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Verifiability#Burden_of_evidence Zygnus 21:43, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think it's utterly vile that you people regard "Being a bit moody and isolated over that time she was raped when she was 12" as, and I quote "Bratty"

There is plenty of criticism against the program

edit

The show was made to show us Europeans if the american though love concept is a sollution to all our problems with teenagers going out of control.

Instead it has turned into a kind of porn, where the youngster wants 15 minutes of fame and we viewers wants to see their breakdowns as they are tortured. I am not alone with this problem. http://www.slate.com/id/2125096/

I did not make the rasist remarks, but the other points were good enough. In Europe, we do not allow parents to hire a private firm to come and get our child from its own bed in the middle of the night. We do not allow a private firm to handcuff our own child just because the child has broken houserule and not the laws of the society.

So the show did not show reality even though it was a reality show.

If you look on: http://wwf.fornits.com/viewforum.php?f=37&sid=5b2c1aae24fa72084705b442d4cddc9f you will find several people there have been at redcliff at the same time as the brits. Silk gloves were used and only in series 3 we were allowed to see Lucy being tortured for an hour.

The hole concept of brat camp does not deal with deeper lying problems with the children. It only teaches them how to be nice out of pure fear of being sent back. The result was so clear on family brat camp, where a mother did chicken out in the end, because she had to face reality. She wanted to leave the desert - not her child. The parents responsibility is missing in these series.

I do not disagree that the show is cruel, but I do disagree with editing articles based on emotions. The neutrality of the link providing the criticism in the former article was non-existent. Again I show to Wikipedia's article about neutrality and reliable source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view Zygnus 09:14, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
One of the "Brats" was a rape victim.
You made this post in 2006? What was the matter with you people? 71.17.56.235 (talk) 03:44, 14 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Why leave the criticism from one organisation and not from another?

Why is ficausa a poorer source to information than Barnado?

The Boston Globe regarding Brat Camp USA

edit

Why was this removed.

Lack of support after the show endangeres the children (The Boston Globe)

It was a public reaction to the show. Is the Boston Globe not a reliable source?

The use of sick

edit

"Sick" is used three times in this article, each time in connection to a mental disorder. I feel it's at best an unneed redundacy and at worse, a potentially offensive use of a colloquialism. I'm removing it accordingly. FerventDove

No prizes for guessing who added in that word. – Steel 01:19, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • "Illness" or "disease" may be a better word? Normally such things as depression would be treated at the local hospital if it is so severe that it effects people life.

Covergaard 05:44, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • "Depressed" is a far more specific (and thus meaningful) description than "sick" or "ill" or "diseased." Generic words like "sick" or "ill" could mean almost anything (influenza, cancer, AIDS, heart defects, etc., etc.).--orlady 15:47, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
While this maybe considered "overkill" it is common at the SageWalk program for the kids to go on to another placement, even if SageWalk was the first step, i.e. no previous psychiatric or criminal encounters. The program offers two plans which are picked before the child is "enrolled": one in preperation for another, often long term placement, and then the "family reunification plan". (http://www.sagewalk.com/programs.htm) This is in either 30 or 60 days in length, respectively. FerventDove 08:33, 28 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, Long term placement is either an argument for exploitation of the parents or an argument for that the depression is the severe clinical one. If it was mood depression we are talking about, the right solution would be medication and local treatment by a psychologist or a psychiatrist. So the link is definite wrong.

American brat camp seems to be comprised of kids with problems like PTSD and ADD, which they can't help and need tretment with like ecstasy and ritalin respectavely, but when i was a kid the psychiatrist said i didnt have ADD i was just evil and if you gave me ritalin i would probably abuse it or deal it.
