The area of interest does not legally exist

edit

First I apologize for my poor English. The Brazilian Government has never declared the existence of an area of interest in Antarctica. It's just an idea of some Brazilian geopolitical. I insist that you should not treat this issue as if the area of interest existed legally in Brazil. This country has never made a territorial claim in Antarctica. If anyone thinks that what I say is correct, then it provides evidence on some legislation. Greetings.Cêsar (talk) 22:36, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

He is right. There is no official Brazilian claim to the so-called "area of interest" and Brazil, by words and deeds, is fully committed to the Antarctic Treaty. I admit this article does not say that there is such a claim, but it is written in a way that would mislead readers, with terms such as "administration" (the so-called "area of interest" is not administered by Brazil; Brazil's Antarctic Program is) and so on. For the sake of intellectual honesty, it should be re-formatted and re-written so as to reflect the speculative nature of the term "Brazilian Antarctica". Or, at the very least, it should contain a paragraph explaining that there is no official claim made by the Brazilian government and that the term is an academic notion proposed by one scholar (who I've never heard of, but that doesn't really mean much).
