Pronunciation
editIs it really pronounced "Beeston"? Challenged by User:89.240.114.20 in edit of 16 Aug 2008 to Beeston. See also Long Eaton railway station. Mhockey (talk) 22:15, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
It really is pronounced similar to "Beeston"? but with an an 'r'. It is not BREST-ON Bevo74 (talk) 22:19, 16 August 2008 (UTC) I think the info at Long Eaton railway station is just to say the LE train station was orginally called 'Breaston', but having two similar station names close together could have been a problem, so was changed to LE. Many thanks for the clarification. I am very happy to defer to local knowledge on this one. A couple of suggestions: 1. Maybe substitute the actual pronunciation for "similar to Beeston" in the article, using WP:IPA. Then remove my "dubious" tag. 2. Mention the one-time Breaston station in the Breaston article, and the reason why the name was changed.
It might also be worth removing Breaston from the list in the Beeston disambiguation page - or demoting it to a "See also". Mhockey (talk) 09:35, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
I cannot actually find a reference for how it is pronounced I just 'know', searches seem to lead to wikipedia mirror pages, so I'll have to leave that for now. Bevo74 (talk) 12:01, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
The LE train station page does have book references, but not in-line, I'm not sure how to deal with that. Bevo74 (talk) 12:03, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
Found and added a ref for pronunciation. Mhockey (talk) 18:35, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
