Shouldn't this page be a stand-alone list? That would require changing the page's name to List of Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic top three finishers or something of the sort. It might also require a slight re-write to the lead section. Cnilep (talk) 17:57, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi Cnilep. I know that it looks redundant or could be merged. We have tried that before and were over ruled again and again. We were told that it makes a single page look too long and cumbersome. Please note that all the Breeders Cup and Triple Crown races have separate "Top three finisher" pages as do all stakes races in Maryland and many Grade one races throughout the country. We are presently working on a project to have "Top three finisher" and Starters pages on every graded race in the country. We have started on grade one, then grade two, then grade three. You will see that some of these races have well over 140 years of history and to have two separate table on one page over 140 lines each would be huge. The consensus was to have a separate link to the "Top three finishers" and Starters. I hope this helps but you may re-open it to discussion. I am afraid it would take a great deal of time to go back and make it uniform on all stakes races.--Craiglduncan (talk) 18:36, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, I'm not suggesting that the page be merged or otherwise changed. I'm simply pointing out that in its current form it seems to be a stand-alone list in all but name. I note the first sentence of the article: "This is a listing of the horses that finished in either first, second, or third place and the number of starters in the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic" (emphasis added). The typical stand-alone list starts, This is a list of X, where X could easily be "the horses that finished first, second, or third" etc. The only real change would be to the name of the page. I see your point now. There are 14 Breeders Cup Lists like this one and about 20 other pages that are similar "Stakes Race lists." If we change one we should change them all. Would you like a list of them, or if you would like I can help you do that, if you explain how the process works. Please let me know what the best way to proceed is? --Craiglduncan (talk) 21:56, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- If the various editors of the pages agree that the pages should be called List of, you can change the names by following the instructions for moving a page. If you would like me to help with this process, please let me know at User talk:Cnilep. Cnilep (talk) 01:43, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
After you make this change, we will follow suite, please explain the process of changing a page title since I have not done this yet.--Craiglduncan (talk) 03:15, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
- The process is fairly straight-forward, though not entirely intuitive.
- Click on 'Move' at the top of the page, to the right of the 'history' tab in the default appearance.
- You should receive a message telling you the page move was successful. If it was not, you'll need help from an Admin to complete the move.
- After a successful move, click 'What links here' in the toolbox on the left side of the page (in the default appearance). Update any links by changing the name of the internal link to the current page name.
- I've moved Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic top three finishers to List of Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic top three finishers with no problems. Note that the old name is automatically turned into a redirect to the new page. Good luck with the other moves. Cnilep (talk) 21:24, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
This is not a list. Handicapper (talk) 20:15, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
