This is not much of an article
editI created this on the fly because it was astonishing to me that a seemingly rather "powerful" person is essentially nonexistent on WP. (More powerful, one could say, than Trump pre-presidency). I tried to Wikilink his name last year, which lasted about 30 mins as a redlink before reversion to plain text. It is not logical that the Bechtel articles on WP would lack this generation of the family. He is apparently cut from the same cloth as the other family members who have led the company; hence my efforts to get something started. I have it preserved in my sandbox, so if it needs to be killed as an article that is fine w/ me. I just thought I would put it out there in case anyone on the planet wondered about this Wikighost and searched for the name in the next few hours.--Quisqualis (talk) 04:07, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- Quisqualis, I have expanded and added references to the article. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 23:02, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Requested updates
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello. Let me first disclose that I am an employee of Bechtel and have been tasked with representing the company on Wikipedia. Similarly to how I have worked on Bechtel, I will propose edits to this article on the Talk page. I will not be editing the article. That said, I have a few updates to offer that I think will be helpful in giving a more accurate description of Brendan Bechtel. @Quisqualis: Since you created this article, you might be interested in reviewing this request.
Since this article is short, I have included my suggestions in the collapse box below, with the edited material in green text, followed by a collapse box with proper markup.
In the first collapse box, you will see I:
- Updated with Mr. Bechtel's status as chairman and CEO
- Clarified that Mr. Bechtel became CEO in 2016; chairman and CEO in 2017
- Simplified one sentence to say Mr. Bechtel is the 5th generation of the Bechtel family "to lead the company"
- Clarified that Mr. Bechtel's Master's degree is in "construction engineering and construction management"
Also, you will notice that my proposed edits deletes Mr. Bechtel's birthday. I kindly ask Wikipedia editors to remove this information from the article, as this is private information Mr. Bechtel does not want widely available. Note that Mr. Bechtel has not shared this information in any publicly available source.

- Pinging Cullen328, who has edited this article previously, and Dormskirk, who has edited the main Bechtel article. As I noted in this edit request, I have a few suggestions to better describe Brendan Bechtel, and I ask that his date of birth be removed, as this is not information that Mr. Bechtel has made publicly available. Thank you. CM at Bechtel (talk) 17:44, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, CM at Bechtel. As you requested, I have removed his exact date of birth but left his year of birth, per WP:DOB. I do not have time at the moment to review the rest of the proposed changes, but I will do so later. I appreciate how thorough you are, and that you are clearly trying to comply with our policies and guidelines. Thank you.
- Disclosure: My father, now deceased, worked for Bechtel for a year or two about 40 years ago. I do not think that this constitutes a conflict of interest, but if any editor disagrees, please let me know. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 18:55, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- CM at Bechtel, I think that all of your suggested changes have been incorporated. What do you think? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:52, 7 July 2017 (UTC)
- Great work, Cullen328 and Dormskirk. I am appreciative of the help. The changes all look good. Thank you. CM at Bechtel (talk) 15:45, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

- ... that one of Chairman and CEO Brendan Bechtel's first jobs was to install security cables for laptops at Bechtel headquarters in San Francisco when he was 14 years old? Source: Brendan Bechtel quote in Washington Business Journal (September 21, 2018): "My first paid job at 14 was in San Francisco at the Bechtel headquarters... I had to go around to every single person in the San Francisco office and say, 'Hello, my name is Brendan. I'm here to install this security cable that locks your computer to your desk,' because we had a couple laptops walk out the building."
- Reviewed: Template:Did you know nominations/Cavalcade of the American Negro
- Comment: * Expansion began on October 15, 2022. Wording is "one of first jobs" because according to the source, that summer, before he was installing cables, he did some database programming for Bechtel.
