Shouldn't there be a tag about this article partly describing a current event, due to the temporary bridge closure?

There seems to be some conflicting information between 144.131.44.139 and 58.164.217.47. It would probably be a good idea to see some more references on the page so we don't end up with information that is just wrong. --Nsmith 84 23:17, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to have to add a tag saying that this information may not be reliable until we can get some references for some of these dates. --Nsmith 84 01:01, 12 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Evad37 — SatuSuro — Nbound — Chuq: I am of the belief that there is sound notability and ample sources to cite. However, as the proposed bridge is unnamed, I have no idea what to call said "future bridge" article. I even had a look here for inspiration but unfortunately have come up empty handed. Any advice my fellow Wikipedians can offer would be appreciated. Wiki ian 01:52, 19 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Bridgewater replacement bridge - is the safest, if they ever get beyond saying they are going to do it - they might even try a new name... until that time, Bridgewater replacement bridge is my suggestion. satusuro 02:02, 19 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
So you're suggesting I don't bother with a new article and place all relevant information on the proposed bridge on the existing article? Wiki ian 02:23, 19 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I've had a look here for inspiration - Category:Proposed bridges - but there doesn't seem to be a lot of consistency. Maybe New Bridgewater Bridge? What was the Tasman Bridge called before it was built? Might check Trove... --- Chuq (talk) 09:13, 19 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Chuq: After browsing the sub categories of proposed bridges, I've only managed to come up with two other possibilities; Bridgewater Bridge replacement and Proposed River Derwent crossing. And in all honesty, I think your suggested article name; New Bridgewater Bridge is a far better candidate. I shall hold off on the creation of the article in the hope that others support your suggestion or add their views on the naming of the new article. Thankyou kindly :-) Wiki ian 12:38, 19 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Bridge name

edit

The above discussion "proposed replacement bridge article name?" about the name is now 10 years old, and with the new bridge under construction and planning to open next year, I thought it warranted a fresh section :)

I was reading the following: https://bridgewaterbridge.tas.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/306190/Rail.pdf, and it points out that the current bridge is the fourth bridge at this location (the under-construction bridge will be the fifth). There's no mention of any of the first three having different names - they've all been Bridgewater Bridge.

The only difference now is that the new (fifth) bridge is not connected to the causeway, unlike all the others. In fact many official references to the existing/previous bridge(s) use the name Bridgewater Bridge and Causeway.

Wish I had an answer - just more questions!

(On a totally different topic, this is at Bridgewater Bridge (Tasmania), but the disambiguation page Bridgewater Bridge only shows two other links - one of which isn't called "Bridgewater Bridge" and the other of which is a red link - that's a whole other discussion!)

The article does not have clear point of reference to the different bridges, and dates - the following probably doesnt help that much

  • 1831 - "The Courier". The Hobart Town Courier. Vol. IV, , no. 191. Tasmania, Australia. 18 June 1831. p. 2. Retrieved 4 September 2024 – via National Library of Australia.{{cite news}}: CS1 maint: extra punctuation (link)
  • 1849 - BRIDGEWATER BRIDGE. Built according to the provision of the Act of Council, 10 Viet. No. 11, Aug 18, 1846. opened April 20, 1849, and a proc, of his Excel. Sir W. Denison, dated April 23, 1849. Sc ... Wood's Tasmanian almanack., no.(1851), 1851-01-01, p.37

The point is that if someone was to check trove carefully, maybe the earlier combinations or road/rail and the various bridges might have existed. JarrahTree 07:30, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks sats! I was going to check Trove but you're way ahead of me! A good starting place anyway. Hopefully I'll get around to it on the weekend (or maybe not, given my track record!) -- Chuq (talk) 00:49, 6 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
