editHello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Brigham Young University Student Service Association. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}
after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
- Added archive https://web.archive.org/20120306064113/http://newsnet.byu.edu/story.cfm/59043 to http://newsnet.byu.edu/story.cfm/59043

Maintentance tags
editI have been working on this article and think I have improved it sufficiently for the maintenance tags to be removed. I replaced primary sources with news articles and I think that also serves to establish notability. In order to prevent COI, I can't remove the maintenance tags, but would someone be willing to peruse my changes and remove the tags if the issues were sufficiently resolved? COI?
editHi, @Justlettersandnumbers:, I noticed that you added the COI maintenance tag. My student and I are employees of BYU, so yes, there is a possibility of a conflict of interest. We work in BYU's academic library and we've tried to make the page neutral, but are there places on the page where you have noticed biased writing? Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 20:17, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
- Well, Rachel Helps (BYU), to be perfectly honest I can't see anything that isn't. I see (at a cursory glance) not one independent reliable source in the whole thing. It appears to be the sort of in-house history that might be appropriate on the website of the university, but is out of place here. This vast screed with its abundance of minutiae (a disagreement over a fee for the school dance?) seems intended to give the impression that the association is of some importance and/or notability, which as far as I can see it is not. Wikipedia is built on what is reported in independent reliable sources (only!); what do they say about this? If it's not much, it may be that this page should be merged/redirected to the page on the university. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:41, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
- I agree that the page was overly detailed, and I had my student cut it down a bit. Wikipedia isn't "only" built on what is reported in independent reliable sources. According to WP:SELFSOURCE, there is allowance for sources from the subject of the article itself. And, I think you could argue that the on-campus publication, The Daily Universe, while not independent from BYUSA, has reported on controversies in BYUSA elections. Brigham Young University: A House of Faith is published by Signature Books, which is an independent publisher. They may have a reputation for being anti-Mormon, but it depends on the publication--my student chose to balance information from this publication with information in the "official" university history, which I think is a fair representation. I'm not sure if we'll ever be able to edit the page to your satisfaction, but your feedback has encouraged us to improve the page, so thank you for that.
