It's funny, of course as an old-time BCer there has to be Calona Wines, started by Herb Capozzi's father, I believe, and famous for the$5 magnums of the immortal Calona Muscatel, a student and rubbie favourite in the '70s; it was the first large commercial winery SFAIK in BC; not sure if it ever had a wine worth a connoisseur drinking, probably not.
I imagine a lot of current wineries may have articles already, which are not categorized properly, but here's a (very brief) starter list for preparation to transfer:
Okanagan Valley wine region
edit- Entre deux Lacs Vinyards
- Jackson Triggs
- Nk'mip Vinyards (or Nk'mip Wines?)
- Blasted Church Vineyards
- Blue Mountain Vineyard
- Quails' Gate Winery
...I've got the Penticton wine-tourism guide handy here in my motel, so will add to this and do a full listing of Okanagan wines; I think it has the Similkameen ones too, don't know where to look for Fraser Valley, Gulf Islands, and Cowichan/Vancouver Island.....Skookum1 (talk) 08:59, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- 121 wineries
Similkameen Valley wine region
edit- Cerelia
- Clos de Soleil
- Eau Vivre
- Forbidden Fruit (winery)
- Orofino (wine region) - dabbed because of Orofino, Idaho which is the target of Orofino,a redirect which would become a dab
- Robin Ridge
- Rustic Roots
- Sage Bush
- Seven Stones (wine region) - dabbed because of the Genesis song Seven Stones
Per listings at Similkameenwine.com
Fraser Valley wine region
edit- 22 winerires
Comox Valley (Vancouver Island) wine region
edit- 35 wineries
Gulf Islands wine region
edit- 9 wineries
"The Kootenay" wine region
edit- 7 wineries
Thompson/Shuswap wine region
edit- 11 wineries
Lillooet wine region
editNote this search within Wikipedia for "List of wineries" and the [List of vineyards and wineries]] which is incomplete and orphaned.
I don't have time to write all of these; each major wine region should have its own article; these are just notes.Skookum1 (talk) 17:45, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Osoyoos Indian Reserve vines
editBetween their own production, largely for Jackson Triggs, and leases to othe wineries in addition to their own, Nk'mip, the Osoyoos Indian Reserve produces I think 40% of all wine grapes in the Okanagan; maybe it's 60%. That's probably on the band's website, or Nk'mip's, I'll look around.Skookum1 (talk) 08:59, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ooooh. That would be an awesome DYK if we can find some sources on it. BTW, I'm working on the Okanagan Valley (wine) article. Should have something live by Monday evening. AgneCheese/Wine 09:12, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Isn't the standard for wine-area articles Okanagan Valley AVA? Other than that Okanagan Valley (wine region) seems preferable to Okanagan Valley (wine), which would suggest there is one wine named "Okanagan Valley. The stats on OIB/OIR production I had from a data sheet from a job I had for a couple of days at Nk'mip (they wanted me to cut my ponytail off to "preserve their conservative ethic"). But they probably have a press release kicking around; it may be on Jackson Triggs' website, I'll look around.Skookum1 (talk) 06:51, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well Canadian wine regions are a little different. They don't have AVAs, which stand for American Viticultural Areas but rather VQAs. But VQAs are more of a quality designation for the region and not every winery in the Okanagan has to submit to VQA standards and quite a few actually produce wines without. Typically the Wine project uses the (wine) dab for articles that deal with the same topic covered by the unambiguated title, just from a wine angle. See Oak and Oak (wine), harvest and harvest (wine), Tuscany and Tuscany (wine) for example. We could do (wine region) but usually only do that when there is actually a wine that is distinct from the wine region like Champagne (wine) and Champagne (wine region) but that is one of the few times we have (wine region) has a dab. - Duh, re AVA/AQV....and Calona Wines definitely won't be AQV, LOL. Noting the current list of wines is in the "See also" section I'm thinking, given teh sheer number, that we need List of wineries in British Columbia. Before I go to bed I'll transcribe the list from the Okanagan tourism guide here, but I'm busy right now....Skookum1 (talk) 07:53, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

OK, that's just "so far", I know I have something else here that has more, including the Similkameen ones. Weird to see "vineyard" instead of "vinyard" huh, for me anyway. Also noting that these are the wineries, not necessary the label names, e..g Calona Wines vs Calona Winery. Greata Ranch also has a history, like certain others will. This is from the 2010-2011 International Guide: Okanagan Valley" published by http://www.visitors-info.com Quite likely only those wineries which paid to be in this advertorial are listed, others are not; I'll do more tomorrow. Be interesting if some of these are bluelinks already. G'nite.Skookum1 (talk) 09:45, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
