Permanent population

edit

Why does the quick facts box say there is one permanent inhabitant? The official government website says that there is no permanent population and I can't find any other source supporting the number of 1. 2001:9E8:A33D:9D00:A59F:3C46:AE08:8BCF (talk) 21:17, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

I changed the permanent population to 0. It must have been a typo or subtle vandalism that occurred months ago. DDMS123 (talk) 21:22, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Should we add the past tense to this article?

If BIOT is gonna cease to exist, should we do it? Zabezt (talk) 20:41, 3 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I would say not yet. This quote from the gov.uk page cited in the article says: This week’s political agreement is subject to a treaty and supporting legal instruments being finalised. Both sides have committed to complete this as quickly as possible.[1] Frobnicette (talk) 08:26, 4 October 2024 (UTC) Frobnicette (talk) 08:26, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

When is the exact handover/decommission date?

Have we got sources as to what date in the coming weeks the British sovereignty will be extinguished and transferred to Mauritius? 203.46.132.214 (talk) 07:03, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

We don't know, both countries will have to ratify the deal. CMD (talk) 08:18, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Transfer to Mauritius

edit

I’m sure not if I’m correct however, when will this page be updated to the correct information. HistoricFalacy (talk) 18:50, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I believe the article has the "correct" information. Note that the "political agreement is subject to a treaty and supporting legal instruments being finalised. Both sides have committed to complete this as quickly as possible." So it's in progress and has not yet been handed over to Mauritius. DRMcCreedy (talk) 20:06, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have reverted this edit [1] to the Chagos Archipelago article with summary "The robber has lost". The infobox is rather different on that article and I've also tagged, but not removed, a claim that seems simplistic. Lo2u (TC) 19:01, 13 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
