Where the redirect should go

To User:Rob984, what matters for where a redirect goes to is what is intended by the articles linking in. When I look at "What links here", out of mainspace pages linking in there is, for example Lithuanian - English dictionary. On that page, what is meant by British language is clearly British English. When I changed the redirect some time ago to British English (which you have now changed to redirect to just British), I must have arrived from a similar usage. What I thought before, and your edit summary now, is speculation about what articles linking here will intend.

1. A remedy is to treat this like a disambiguation page (which no mainspace article should link to) and systematically go through and change all incoming links. I will change the link at Lithuanian - English dictionary right now. Would you be willing to help address all incoming links that way?

Oh, hmm, I thought there would be lots of incoming links, but there is just Arundel. I don't know which target is meant by usage there. Can you possibly fix that? --doncram 00:32, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

2. Maybe this should be made into a disambiguation page? It could mean Common Brittonic (this page was moved to there in July 2013, as result of move discussion at Talk:Common Brittonic). A reader could be looking for Old Brythonic (language) (this page was moved there in June 2013). Hmm, now both British language and British language (disambiguation) redirect to British. Should there be a restored disambiguatio page here, or should the redirects go to some specific section of British disambiguation page? --doncram 00:25, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

The link at Arundel was intended for Common Brittonic, not British English; I have disambiguated it now. I think "British language" should possibly be redirected to Common Brittonic. Otherwise I think we should leave it redirecting to British, since all uses of "British language" (Common Brittonic, Welsh language, and British English) are also uses of "British". Although, a combined disambiguation page with British languages is also possibly an option. Otherwise "British languages" needs redirecting to one of its two topics.
