Transparency of information

edit

Hopefully the removal of external links to the websites of our clubs, affiliates and partners can end. The information resources available here can help speed information to the student population much faster. I agree that this page will likely be edited by those that know about BUSU, that part is given as people that do not know BUSU are unqualified to speak knowledgeably about BUSU. I see the point that you are trying to make. However, one of the main things that Wikipedia really should not be is a soapbox or a vehicle for advertising (as per WP:NOT.) Remember that we are here to create an encyclopedia, not to promote the Brock University Students' Union. Andy Saunders 17:52, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've tagged this page with advert. Things such as drink prices at the local pub do not belong on Wikipedia. SpigotMap 22:27, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Elections info

edit

Yes, most of the info here was not here last year. However, there was election info last year, but just saying that there were elections going on -- not with candidate names. Personally, I think there is a bigger issue here of "how much information is appropriate for a student union article?" -- and I think anyone who currently edits this page is too close to the page to have a proper answer to it. I'm going to put in for a peer review and see what comes of it. OntarioQuizzer 06:13, 1 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

1997-1998 VPSS

edit

How come there is no VPSS listed for the year's 1997-1998?

I believe that the VPSS resigned mid-way through the year in 1997. Busuinformant 22:10, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Advertisment

edit

Please review WP:SOURCE WP:NPOV and WP:ISNOT before removing the tags I have added. This is not a resource to promote your school and its drink prices. SpigotMap 07:09, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for cleaning this article up. SpigotMap 23:01, 24 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup

edit

I have added more references and cleaned up some of the content. Hopefully, this will end the mass deletion of this page.Mr. No Funny Nickname 14:26, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I reverted your edits. Wikipedia isn't a directory, so we don't need to know who every student executive, etc is. Plus the stuff that was re-added in fails to cite proper sources. You can't use self published sources. See also WP:BIO, and WP:EiC. GreenJoe 15:30, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Several other similar pages list the current executive as well as former executives. Additionally, self published sources can be used, as I don't see anything here that would be considered contentious, there is no doubt as to who wrote it, and does not involve claims about 3rd parties that are do not have other sources. This page has had peer reviews and has not had a mass deletion, I don't feel this page warrants such action. Furthermore, this is the most well written and thoroughly sourced student union page on Wikipedia, I don't see why only this page is being targeted.Mr. No Funny Nickname 02:39, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
None of them do anymore. They've all been taken care of. However, also see WP:WAX. The only time we list some executives, is if they're notable enough to have a Wikipedia article outside of their involvement with the union. And it must be cited. GreenJoe 02:43, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Executive listing notwithstanding, the rest of the article has been restored with numerous sources. Hopefully this will end the edit wars.Mr. No Funny Nickname 02:57, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
WIKIPEDIA IS NOT A DIRECTORY!! Get it through your head. We don't care about the U-Pass or Shinarama. Put something noteworthy in there, like about how the President was fired (if they ever were), and make sure to cite sources. GreenJoe 03:04, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Looking at the page now, one would think that the only purpose that this organization serves is as members of OUSA and CASA, this is simply untrue, pair down if you see fit but I don't see why people continue to see the need to mass-delete this page.Mr. No Funny Nickname 03:11, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Think of the article this way... who are you, what do you want, why do you exist, when were you created, where are you located, and how do you function? Those are the basic questions that you want answered. We don't need to know about the campus pub, or how much a can of Pepsi is. It's not encyclopedic to mention who the current President is, or what they ate for lunch. We don't care about that. We do care if the President was impeached for buying that pizza with their corporate credit card. GreenJoe 03:16, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

That is what my last 2 edits reflect, I remove all references to executive members, but you still deleted the section saying that BUSU even has an executive, or a board of directors, you also deleted a list of services provided. I'm fine with editing and paring down, but after each attempt, the whole page has been deleted.Mr. No Funny Nickname 03:26, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I re-added the "governance" part back in, but the services part is irrelevant. GreenJoe 03:29, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Services are not irrelevant, they are a big part of what BUSU does. Simple massive deleting does not solve this problem, edit, trim down, I am fine with that.Busuinformant 20:18, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

This page has constantly been mass deleted, even when changes have been proposed they have been mass deleted. I have restored the original version. Hopefuly we can come to a compromise as I would like to see most of this information stay as I believe it is valuable while I realize sections with names of individuals should not be included in this article.Busuinformant 20:16, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree that Wikipedia isn't a directory. Which is why I think the info on current & past members can be removed. However, there is important information that is being deleted with everything else. Services should be included.Busuinformant 20:34, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • It looks like there's a baby in with the bathwater. I'd say to keep the useful (i.e., prose) sections with the descriptions of services and the like but without the membership lists. —C.Fred (talk) 21:34, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • I agree there's some useful information in the prose section, but it needs to be reworked to be more concise and so it reads less like a student union calendar. On one hand, this is a major part of what the union does and should be included, but on the other, they are pretty generic services provided by most student unions and not notable enough to warrant a bunch of separate sub-headings. Fluff like "one of the biggest bars in the region" is weasely language that doesn't add anything (in the top ten biggest bars? number 2? according to who?) I also agree the names list is too much. Also, Busuinformant, a good informant keeps their identity and true purpose a secret because, well, nobody likes a snitch. You might consider getting a different username per WP:SPA as well taking a look at WP:COI. bobanny 23:16, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • The article as it is rignt now looks fine. There is no need for lists of names or specific servives. Those things are of interest to Brock students and few others, and are readily available on teh student union website. Silverchemist 14:24, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

VP's

edit

I reverted the removal of the VP's because plenty of infoboxes list their officers, but they may not be notable. It's precedent. Me-123567-Me (talk) 01:21, 1 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
