OLD STUFF RELATING TO BEFORE PAGE MOVE
editJust starting: preliminary thoughts
editHopefully the mention of productivity and international trade will help explain major constraints on budgets with only secondary concerns relating to imperfect information gathering. Let us aspire, at least, to give clear top-line information and show government agencies how this might be done.
The need to adopt standard terms in presenting financial information is great and the "Big Six" (see Links "Accounting firms" in the article)seem to have woken up to this by suggesting adoption of XBRL methods and including performance. The Sub-prime (and now unsecured loan?) problems might well have been avoided if risk data were available in real-time. I would welcome a value added and Best value approach to the development of this article. Not sure I can do much more. It will be interesting to see where you experts take this. --Nick Green 03:17, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
IAET
editThe UK Expenditure pie chart list spending on "IAET" as £21 billion. What is IAET?--172.202.234.179 (talk) 18:46, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
IAET heading - seconded, i've no idea what that means; is it improperly accumulated earnings tax, e.g. tax rebates? thanks... Comrade jo (talk) 14:36, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- it means 'Industry, agriculture, employment and training' hardly obvious. Fortunately the uploader used SVG format which means the text is simpler to change with a product like Inkscape. I'll update the chart later this week to remove the non-obvious abbreviations. I've expanded the acronym, and re-uploaded. You may need to clear your browser's cache in order to see the change. I also fixed the citation link given on the description page. As an aside, this page is pretty bad atm. Splash - tk 22:04, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Total rewrite, or split?
editObviously the bulk of this poor article refers to exactly one budget, so it is either obsolete and needs to be rewritten, or the bulk of it could be put into a 'UK Budget of 2008' article, leaving just a stub for 'UK Budget'. Maybe we should just go for the second option? Chiswick Chap (talk) 06:53, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- Both topics are notable so in my view a split is the best approach, with this article becoming a stub.Rangoon11 (talk) 13:09, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- Done. Fill in the stub, and all the missing years (article for each), anyone? Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:05, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
The first line says this: "The United Kingdom budget is an annual budget..." That needs changing. The bean-counters absolutely have the whip hand now, the budget is moving from once per year to four times a year in about as many years since it was last annual. Tax returns will be filed four times a year. Any notion that this process is a yearly event is now absurdly outdated. Soon the public will be able to think of little else, so any attempt at a scholarly article should rapidly be updated or it will look ridiculous to all those who know different due to their own forcible experience. It is not needed to be politically weighted in any way, it will be enough to state the facts as they now are, IF the writers can keep up with them.31.51.98.34 (talk) 00:08, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
