editI concur with the removal of the Sigma platform reference. As far as I've read, the car is not really new except for the body; the Century/Regal architecture is still there. RivGuySC 17:54, 3 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Is there no LaCrosse/Allure photo in public domain? Trekphiler 02:43, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
The latest entry equating "allure" and "intrigue" seems to me doubtful. RivGuySC 05:54, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
The "LaCrosse Super" section is just...wow. None of it accurate beyond the first two sentences. Revised to reflect the real expectations of the Super trim. User:Flybrian --24.96.69.81 21:53, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Discrepancy with Regal article
editI've noticed conflicting information -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_Regal#2009_Reintroduction This section of the Buick Regal article says it is due to replace the LaCrosse in 2009, while this article says the LaCrosse is to continue to 2010. Just thought I'd point that out. - 68.119.34.238 (talk) 00:43, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Grrr
editGM, stop editing wikipedia. We can all see it when you do it, its just obvious when you edit articles on your own cars. *sigh* Scryer_360 (talk) 19:42, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
2010 built at Fairfax
editI referenced the information stating that the LaCrosse will continue to be built at Fairfax for 2010 and agree with the removal of the stuff about it being built in Germany. I suspect that information is incorrect, and it's the Insignia-clone Regal that is to be built there (assuming it comes to fruition). Besides, it would make no sense for GM to suddenly decide to move production to a different continent after they had already begun preparing Fairfax. (That and I happen to trust the Kansas City Star to know more about this than a European environmental website would.) --Sable232 (talk) 16:11, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Lacrosse name in Canada
editThere has been talk that it's only an urban legend that GM didn't use the Lacrosse name in Canada because it means masturbation in Quebec. There is no urban legend there. In French Quebec,(aka where I live) "La Crosse" literally translates to either "The Hoax" or "The Masturbate". There is a reason GM didn't use the Lacrosse name in Canada even if meant having to put more money in marketing to create a whole different set of publicities. It was an understandable call given past mistakes in this department like the old Chevy Nova wich was sold in Mexico but translated in spanish as the Chevy "Doesn't Go". It is always a risk when using a global name on a car. But now with the current economy, it's more logical to use a global name and save money on marketing even if some people can get a small laugh from the name in one province of 7 million people which honestly isn't a lot compared to the 350+ millions of peole in North America. Today the car is well known and the average buyer of 50+ years old will not care that teenagers can call his car a hoax or a musturbate on wheels. There is nothing wrong with this and there is no shame to GM so don't start a useless flamewar. It's just s question of getting the facts straight and one of those facts is that GM changed the name of the car in Canada since the named was a practical joke in Quebec.
- Fact being the Nova story is simply untrue. Anybody with access to the Internet should know that. Kind, PrinceGloria (talk) 13:51, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
The Chevrolet Nova was assembled and sold in Argentina from the mid-1960s to 1974. Argentina primarly speaks spanish. Nova in spanish is "no" "va" which litterally means "no" "go" or "doesn't go".
- [1] Good boo, PrinceGloria (talk) 17:14, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- Those Quebec meanings are rather unfortunate, since the true literal French meaning of La Crosse includes: a) the butt (stock) of a gun, b) the curved pastoral staff carried by abbots, bishops, and archbiships ((un)known in English as a crosier), and c) a cane as used by the elderly (this meaning is old, but not entirely archaic) but only the curved variety. 206.180.38.20 (talk) 19:10, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
Luxury cars
editwhy arent buicks classed as luxury cars. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.45.22.126 (talk) 16:11, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
The Park Avenue and the post-2016 LaCrosse both are. https://www.thecarmagazine.com/2017/06/01/2017-buick-lacrosse-premium-awd/ 2600:6C50:4000:27D0:A081:5A33:DE8D:F72C (talk) 11:09, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
Generally Buick is not a luxury brand by itself. Its Avenir lineup is seen as borderline with Denali and top-line Cadillac. 2600:6C50:4000:27D0:A081:5A33:DE8D:F72C (talk) 11:09, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
Direct competitors
editAlthough Buick states the Acura TL, Lexus ES 350, and Infiniti Q50 as competitors to the second-generation LaCrosse, it doesn't really compete with those cars. The ES 350 is an E-segment car like the LaCrosse is, but definitely not as luxurious as the LaCrosse (or even the Chrysler 300 or Lincoln MKS). The TL is a D½-segment car; sometimes it will compete with the Lexus IS, and sometimes with the ES. The SH-AWD 3.7 version even matches the price of the base-model Lexus GS or Audi A6, but no, the TL is not a luxury car. The new ES has longer wheelbase, longer length, and grew more interior space than the previous one, making the new one a true E-segment car. The Q50 is a D-segment car, matching fifth-generation Regal, 200, and Cadillac ATS territory. 166.137.208.37 (talk) 19:48, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
Full size
editThis and this are evidence that we should consider it a full-size car as of 2012. The evidence is even stronger for 2014.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 22:33, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- And Chevrolet Impala has been changed back to full-size. We really shouldn't be having this argument.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 21:41, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
The U.S. Government officially classifies it as Mid-Sized. It is smaller than former mid-sized but the U.S. EPA website (fuel economy.gov) shows this is not a full-sized car. Buick does make large cars for China but no longer makes tham for the U.S. market. (U.S. EPA Fuel Economy Standards) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.253.73.187 (talk) 03:13, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
- The current Regal is a mid size car and the LaCrosse is market as Full size. It really doesn't matter to the marketing people what the EPA says. The LaCrosse is in same class as Chevrolet Impala, Ford Taurus, Hyundai Grandeur, Holden Commodore, or Toyota Avalon. It's fullsize but not a true mid-size luxury car. Mid-size luxury is Cadillac CTS, Chrysler 300, Jaguar XF, Lincoln MKZ, and Volvo S80. This car is not in the same class as GM's Cadillac CTS. It's a normal full size car. 4th Generation LaCrosse
editThe 4th generation Buick LaCrosse has been unveiled and released to Chinese consumers. So its addition to the LaCrosse page is needed. Antares600 (talk) 21:06, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
