Talk:Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies

There's not much discussion of:

edit
  • The actual ideas in the book
  • The critical reception of the book
  • Related books, both from Collins and others

The 18 companies

edit

This seems like a kind of dry side-note to me. Does anyone care what companies they are? It takes up a lot of space in the article and doesn't seem to add a corresponding amount of value.

It's about as interesting as their methodology, which also isn't really covered.

Impact...

edit

Does anyone care that "Co-author Jim Collins became a "superstar" among M.B.A.'s"?

It doesn't seem like a serious assessment of the impact. How do you measure "superstar"? Why does it matter? Is it still true?

Criticism / The Halo Effect

edit

There is a worrying lack of criticism, or any mention of the book's reception, in this article. The references and further reading from The Halo Effect (business book) may be able to help. That book itself has a detailed discussion of problems with Built to Last. MartinPoulter (talk) 12:30, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I dimly understand (but do not know for sure) that this book had quite an effect on the international business community. Overnight, companies worldwide started publishing mission statements and articulating their purpose and vision as a result of the research published in this book. that said, I don't have (because I haven't looked for) any authoritative references for it at the moment - cheers, Jim, Wed 7th April 2010 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.130.130.89 (talk) 01:44, 7 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
