Sauer202 (talk · contribs), can you explain why this page is not a content fork of Shooting range, and should not be merged to that page? --SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:07, 26 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
- Hello, this article gives an overview of a certain set of shooting disciplines that includes some of those listed in the shooting sport article. This article refers to the shooting disciplines that are shot at stationary targets and at fixed distances. The shooting range article on the other hand refers to the venue used, but shooting ranges are also used for several other disciplines. I'll explain why I wrote this article which is about "static" short and medium range shooting disciplines in particular: When people shoot long range we call it long range, when people shoot benchrest we call it benchrest, when people shoot practical we call it practical shooting, metallic silhouette is metallic silhouette, etc. (All of these types of competitions are held at a shooting range by the way.) But why do we simply refer to disciplines such as ISSF 25 meter pistol as "shooting"? In Scandinavia we have a name for these standard, static and fixed distance shooting disciplines, such as many of the ISSF disciplines, which directly translates to English as Range-Shooting. It was hard to find a name for it in English, but Range-Shooting was the best I could come up. Maybe we can come up with a better name in English for the name of this article?
