editAccording to Jomsvikingasaga, Palnatoki (Palmer son of Toki), has fallen into conflict with king Sven Forkbeard and must run away from Denmark. With 40 long boats he landed in Vendland, on the Wolin Island and had communicated with the ruler of this country, king Burisleif (Boleslaw the Brave of Poland). The vikings were given right for settling, in return for defense of Polish border. According to saga then they have built Jomsborg and they loyally were serve to Boleslaw. After the Palnatoki's death, Sigvald became a new jarl (with acceptance of Boleslaw the Brave, as it says Jomsvikingasaga). He was the one, who has led on Jomsvikings against Norway. After a lost battle with Norwegians near Hjorungavaag, Sigvald had not returned to Jomsborg, but has settled in his homeland Skania.
Olaf Tryggvason's Saga says also, that Olav's father-in-law, Burisleif, has take a part in compaign of emperor Otton agains Danes and took part in battles near Danevirke. In this expedition was with him Olaf, his son-in-law. If it was a true, name "Burisleif " define rather Mieszko (Mieczyslaw) - father of Boleslaw, because he took part in this compaign with Otton. Because Jomsvikingasaga and Olav Tryggvason's Saga were written down in XII/XIII century, true and legend are mixed together. At this time, scandinavian vikings weren't so strong anymore, and the main centre of piracy at Baltic Sea were slavian sea-shores (including Wolin). All of that, act on an imagination of Icelandic writers.
