Communities

edit

There is no community list. Closest thing is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountainside which has no page for me to view the category "Communities is Burlington, Ontario" is if exists.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Neighbourhoods_in_Burlington,_Ontario That should be added to the page

edit

I'm going to start reviewing most of the links to ensure they go to the correct pages, and I'd like to organize the "Notable Natives" section a little more, it's looking a bit messy. Any suggestions? Maybe another city's page has a good example we can use.Codernaut 18:25, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

City template

edit

I put Burlington's info into the Canadian City template, however there's still the elevation missing and postal code region missing. I don't think those are big concerns, however I did want to get the location image updated to look something like Oakville's. (I finally got Photoshop installed so if no one beats me to it, I'll update it hopefully sometime soon.)

Added it to the main page. See Help_talk:Template:Canadian_City for some troubles I had. --Mrtea 00:45, 5 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Burlington Transit

edit

Since the Burlington Transit article has been reinstated, I removed the duplicate text under the Mass Transit heading. If someone wants to reinsert the Mass Transit heading with a short summary of that article, then include For main article, see Burlington Transit Mrtea (talk) 02:18, 15 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Overhead picture of Burlington

edit

This is my first editing talk entry on any page, and I think this is where I am supposed to write about this kinda stuff. So, a few weeks ago I uploaded a compiled image of aerial photographs into this article, and it was put into a caption a cleaned up - I didn't know how to do that at the time, and after it was done it looked great. The only problem is that the caption was Satelite image, when in fact, though it is tempting to call it such because it looks like what many consider a satelite image, it is in fact just compiled aerial photographs. I base my assertion from my time working in the City of Burlington Engineering Department. But I am interested to hear the other side, since there are other opinions out there! What does everbody think? Aerial or Satelite? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Archos (talk • contribs) 12:46, 27 December 2005.

You’re right- this is the correct place to discuss the Burlington article. It was actually me who erroneously renamed it to "satellite" image. From what I understood at that time, I thought that those types of images were all satellite images. (Mainly because Google Earth and Google Maps are often branded as mainly using satellite images.) Anyway no reason to touch your edit as it’s correct and especially since you’re knowledgeable in the area. By the way, your edit summary stated it was mistaken as vandalism. rv is short for "revert". rvv means "revert vandalism". I left some notes on your talk page regarding talk page etiquette. Incorporation date

edit

Just looking at the recent revisions; the anon revision to 1974 was correct; as the CITY of Burlington was incorporated upon the formation of RMOH; it was Village of Burlington from 1874 to 1915... Bacl-presby 23:08, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism: semi protected

edit

Just a note to everyone, including vandals, that this page is semi protected due to all the vandalism that has been done on the article. Vandals will be blocked if they continue. Please see the discussion about the recent vandalism and feel free to comment. FellowWikipedian 22:36, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • I too, cannot get into this story..It's obvious that some recent edits, even by established users (DP?) are to be questioned....Delinking a number of sites--I'm also surprised to see that Robert Bateman High School links into the Catholic School Board wikientry....as per the vandals, I wonder if they might be responsible for some other vandalism, especially where there are schools named after people like Lester Pearson, etc...

Photos

edit

This article is certainly lacking in photos. I will try to find some. FellowWikipedian 03:31, 12 January 2007 (UTC)   Photo from the Burlington Beach by Adam Filipowicz --Adamfilip 04:12, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Downtown, City Hall, Malls, office of MP and MPP, etc. FellowWikipedian 16:04, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • I'll try to get on that ASAP, once the weather is consistently nice and I have time off from school. I may need help with the protocol about uploading the photos. Thanks in advance. The Fwanksta. 22:31, May 7, 2007.
  • Here we go! Use them as you wish, and I think the one of Spencer Smith could go either here or in the Spencer Smith article itself. Same goes for the picture of Jo Brant Memorial--in this article or maybe in the Jo Brant article under "Legacy" or something. I didn't put the actual photos on this page because they're very large and I'm not exactly sure what's best with paring them down to size or anything like that. Same goes for actually inserting them in the article. --The Fwanksta, May 22, 2007, 16:40.

Also, the offices of the MP and MPP disappeared on me, so when I get a chance I'll hunt them down and get some pictures. Anything else you can think of worth photographing? --The Fwanksta, May 23, 2007, 20:48.
Okay, how about a picture of a newspaper stand up-close with The Burlington Post and another picture of city hall, but this time showing the tower? FellowWikipedian 17:38, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I also found this flag in the commons: Image:Flag of Burlington, ON.png - Rainwarrior 03:59, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, we already have it in the article. Never mind. - Rainwarrior 04:01, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've always thought the large orange statue out front of the Arts Centre (I think it's called Rebecca)is sort iconic of Burlington. A photo of that would great. Just a thought. --Garyedgar (talk) 19:55, 9 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Demographics

edit

The city is overwhelmingly populate with people of European origin as some 91.9% of Burlington inhabitants claim various white ethnicities.

Is this quote assuming that Canadian = White? If so, this is racist. People of Canadian ethnicity can be of any race, as long as Canada is their family's homeland. The percentage of "White" people is best represented on the Census by "non-visible-minority" population.

And why do the percentages in the demographics table add up to over 135%???

Fair use rationale for Image:Downtown Burlington.jpg

edit

Image:Downtown Burlington.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Lists of schools, people and sports teams

edit

Mabie we should move the list of schools to List of schools of Burlington, Ontario, notable natives to List of notable people of Burlington, Ontario, and sports teams to List of sports teams of Burlington, Ontario? They did this on Oakville, Ontario. FellowWikipedian 17:46, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

Sicner they are not published in Burlington, and Burlington is not their primary focus, I have removed the following print publications from the list: the Spec (published in Hamilton), and both the Globe and the Star (published in Toronto). If we are going to list every newspaper available in Burlington, why not add the New York Times, since I can get a copy down at Chapters?

Malls and shopping

edit

I've reverted changes to the malls and shopping. An encyclopedia article is not meant for documenting the current status of the malls during the pandemic, nor is the image of a parked bobcat of any relevance. -- Whpq (talk) 17:17, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
