If you have any information about the Burns Howff or any bands that performed there I would like to know, or any photographs taken at the time. In order to keep this article relevant I would ask that any information be accurate, and remember that this is not a vehicle to promote anyones commercial interests.Orangerock 15:49, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Hi, I played my 1st Howff gig around 1975 with a band called Switchback.I was on 2nd guitar, with Derek Forbes on lead,Brian McLintock on bass and Hughie Armstrong on drums.Later I formed the Boston Red Sox with Nicky McEwen(Frenzy). We played a lot in the Maggie.Derek went on to Simple Minds. The Howff was my favourite haunt and I got to know a lot of the staff and a lot of the bands became personal friends. John Corson.
As a punter
editI had many visits to The Howff in the late seventies and early eighties. The entrance to the Howff was by stairs from West Regent Street down to the doors that led into the Bar area. The long bar was on your right and if you walked up to the back there was a door that took you through to stairs which led up to the upstairs lounge where the bands played. I used to follow Chou Pahrot and my buddy Ken Melvin played bass with a band called The Little Concert which also had Nigel Clark on guitar who went on to play with Hue and Cry and his own band. I was the lights man for TLC but also did them for CP on occasions. I remember watching loads of bands upstairs in the Howff. Freebird, Sneaky Pete were but two. The strange thing about the Howff upstairs was that you could only buy lager, you could not get a pint of heavy...I wonder if anyone else remembers this. The service was waitress only and so I think it made things easier as the music was that loud the waitresses could not hear what you were ordering and so everyone developed their own sign language. Basically 2 fingers up meant 2 pints. I was sad to see the place close because it really was a great venue. Brian Kerr --Bribofaejamesorrst (talk) 20:44, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
