Literal meaning
editArticle needs literal meaning of province name, and Han Tu. Badagnani 07:29, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Is it 金甌? The literal meaning seems strange; is this toponym, like so many southern Vietnamese place names, originally from a non-Sino-Vietnamese source (i.e. from Viet, Khmer, or Cham)? Badagnani (talk) 04:08, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- Many Sino-Vietnamese names are just calqued from the Vietnamese corruption of Khmer. DHN (talk) 01:13, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
That's quite possible/likely. Even so, many sources were written and still exist that use these toponyms, so they should be listed in the proper part of the article giving the etymology, in order to have a truly encyclopedic article. Badagnani (talk) 01:20, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- I have yet to see a source provided that use these characters. DHN (talk) 07:39, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
