Not moved. There is no way that the dab page is going to replace an article with a different name. I suspect that this is simply an incorrect nomination and as such it did not get the proper discussion to make a move. So, no judgment was made on moving Council on American Islamic Relations which is what I think the request was about. Vegaswikian (talk) 21:45, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
CAIR → Council on American Islamic Relations —
- I would suggest that the primary topic for CAIR is the Council on American Islamic Relations. If someone agrees, could they effect that change? Many thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 12:34, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- Given that CAIR has several other meanings, including a placename, I'm not sure it is the "Primary topic". It's not an obvious usage outside the USA. The first page of my Google hitlist for "cair" shows 6 other uses. PamD (talk) 15:00, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- It has 275,000 ghits, and 16,800 gnews hits. I can't imagine that any of the others come close.
- What usage outside the US is greater? For example, "Čair Municipality" gets only 2,850 ghits and 37 gnews hits.--Epeefleche (talk) 15:15, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- Furthermore, Pam, I note that you yourself changed the order on the disambig page, putting the Council first, with the edit summary "a-z order isn't mandatory: if the US orgn is likely to be most sought it goes first".--Epeefleche (talk) 22:16, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I did that because it had been suggested it was the most likely article to be sought. That isn't the same as saying that it's the primary topic. After discussing various ways of arranging items in a dab page into groups (this dab page being too small to need that0, WP:MOSDAB says "Finally, within the above groups, entries should be ordered to best assist the reader in finding their intended article. This order might be by most likely target, alphabetically, chronologically, or some other method." You say that the US org'n is the most likely target, I amended the dab page to put it at the top. - Thanks. I would be interested in your responses to my other point and question, above. Thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 00:06, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
- Info: The disambig page is already at CAIR and the Council on American-Islamic Relations is already at Council on American-Islamic Relations. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:33, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
- The only objection raised has been that there are other uses. But there has been no assertion that the other uses are searched for nearly as much as the page to which I am suggesting readers should be brought first. I already reflected the wide disparity in ghits with the municipality, and have received no response to my above query as to what usage is greater.
Looking at the Wiki views last month, I see the following:
•Number of Wikipedia views in November 2009 (in parens)
- •Council on American-Islamic Relations, American Islamic organization (6,900)
- •Čair Municipality, municipality of Skopje, Republic of Macedonia (530)
- •Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Indian national defense laboratory (351)
- •5-phosphoribosyl-4-carboxy-5-aminoimidazole, chemical (105)
- •Cair Andros, a fictional island in Tolkien's fiction (not even enough for an article; redirects; can’t tell, because it is just a 2-paragaph sliver of a much larger page on Gondor)
- •Clean Air Interstate Rule, US environmental regulation (not even enough for an article; redirects to the EPA; and the acronym CAIR never even appears in the article!)
I would think this a no-brainer.--Epeefleche (talk) 13:01, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
