Nation's capital

edit

Reasons for nation's capital instead of federal capital.

  1. Ottawa is better known as "nation's capital" than "federal capital". Look it up on Google, listen to Ottawa radio. In fact, it's never referred to as "federal capital" unless we are comparing it to provincial capitals and that's not the case here.
  2. Just like Quebec City, Ottawa is the nation's capital, that's why the CHOI people went there.

Maybe there is a better term than "nation's capital". If so, we can use it. But the term "federal capital" is not appropriate because it is rarely used to refer to Ottawa.

It is often called as such by Quebecers, I will mention... it may be used more often than other terms. About the city of Ottawa... you know, it's a capital... and it's federal... it's a federal capital. Factually, that's what it is, you know! :P Appropriately, the CHOI people went there *because it is the federal capital*, i.e. it is where the governmental powers in question, regarding telecommunication, are held. To me, the only other denomination I wouldn't put in question is... "Ottawa". --Liberlogos 15:59, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)
I will also add that there is a comparison with a "provincial" capital (I don't agree with the denomination for Quebec City, but I use it here to draw a link with your argumentation). Something that was said to bother the said CHOI people (and radio host Jeff Fillion himself) was that the decision was made by others, from the exterior; differently said, by an outside capital. --Liberlogos 16:04, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)
I don't think that we should use the word federal to describe Ottawa. Ottawa is not really "federal", it is a city where the federal government of Canada operates. Still, federal capital may be appropriate but it sounds strange in that context. Maybe we can say this instead:
...the station staged a protest against the CRTC's decision on Parliament Hill in Ottawa where 5,000 Quebec fans of the station went to the country's capital...

Sounds good. It's more neutral than nation's capital because I can understand that some people in Quebec do not consider Ottawa the nation's capital. It also "sounds" right compared to federal capital that is rarely if ever used to refer to Ottawa. 132.205.47.180
Agreed specially since that's what I'd written anyway. Let's wait though for Liberlogos motives in changing it. Country's capital and federal capital are totally equal I think, but I can see why some don't like federal. As of the nation it's totally inaccurate, and even the official name is being changed if I recall properly. --Valmi 20:23, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)

On or off?

edit

Is this station still on the air, or is it off the air? I know its license has been basically cancelled and operates as a pirate radio station last time i checked... RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 21:30, 4 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

The station is still on air, as the license was deemed valid again when Radio-Nord acquired it. You should not confuse CHOI-FM and the new program Jeff Fillion is hosting on internet radio, called "radio-pirate". Boréal 20:24, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Anyone see any irony in the choice of callsign, CHOI is pronounced « choix », meaning "choice", but with the Commission for Repression and Thought Control making a mockery of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms yet again, où est le choix? --66.102.80.212 (talk) 03:21, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
