Edit Request
editHello, as mentioned on my page, I am an employee of CI Financial and would like to propose some edits on their behalf. I am mindful of Wikipedia’s policy to provide neutral, factual, and non-promotional information and intend to adhere to this.
We noticed inaccurate or incomplete information in this article and would like to suggest some changes. I will not be editing the page itself unless instructed to do so by the editing community, so I would appreciate your help in this. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Proposed edits:
[in the first paragraph of History section] Also in 1999, the company acquired BPI Financial Corp. (same source as before)
[at the end of History section] It also acquired BBS Securities Inc., parent company of online brokerage Virtual Brokers, due to its investment in fintech. (source: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/funds-and-etfs/ci-financial-buys-virtual-brokers-parent-bbs/article36216422/)
[in Controversy section – we are proposing the version below to make improvements to the original version. The original has some inaccurate or incomplete information and we hope the version below can provide more clarity. I think much of the sources and language have been kept as is and we just expanded on or clarified a few things. Again, I look to the community for guidance and will not be making direct edits.]
In 2004, the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) approved settlement agreements with CI Investments and three other fund companies. As part of the settlement, CI Investments agreed to make a payment of $49.3 million to investors in its mutual funds that were affected by market timing trades carried out by third party investors in certain mutual funds managed by CI Investments. In 2016, CI Investments reached a no-contest settlement with the OSC to pay $156 million to 360,000 investors in its mutual funds. [source: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/industry-news/the-law-page/ci-investments-to-pay-156-million-in-osc-settlement-deal/article28702510/] The settlement was due to CI Investments miscalculating the net asset value of certain funds, by not properly accounting for interest earned from 2009 to 2015. CI Investments also paid an $8 million voluntary payment to the commission.
