Pic of Punk drinking

I've read people refering to a pic of Punk with a beer in his hand. Can anyone confirm if this is true?? --Endlessdan 14:06, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I know that I've seen pictures of Punk with a cup of Pepsi in his hand, but have never seen a cup of beer in his hand. --64.252.90.136 08:03, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

The picture that people are refering to is from the 15th Anniversary RAW special. At the end a majority of wreslters all came out to the ring to celebrate 15 years of RAW. Most of the wrestlers were drinking beer, I believe it was Miller I just know it was a blue can. Several people had alternate beverages Punk is confirmed to have been drink a Pepsi, Regal had a Coca-cola, and some one had water. The blue pepsi can and blue beer are very similar which created the rumor of him drinking. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RavynChloe (talkcontribs) 16:29, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

thats true. can't remember what show it was for, i think maybe the WWE radio channel, regardless, Cody Rhodes had gone on the record as saying that several wrestlers who never were drinkers like cm punk or who stopped drinking like he has had alternative beverages @ the anniversary show. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.85.139.197 (talk) 01:16, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Nope. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 22:00, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
He does but its more like a backup Finisher if G.T.S doent work ,like Jeff Jarrett ,how he use Acoustic Equalizer / El Kabong (Guitar broken over the opponent's head).

Old Finishing moves

Punk no longer uses the Pepsi Plunge or the Anaconda Vise. Based on other articles, I thought clarifying this by putting dates when they were used after the move name was standard practice. Am I wrong? Nenog reverted my edits in this regard. Is this against the MOS or am I missing something else? Gavyn Sykes (talk) 20:22, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

The real problem is the incorrect dates that are usually placed - Punk used the Vice in the indies from 2005 until EARLY 2007 (he didn't debut the GTS as soon as 2007 rolled around) and used the Plunge from 2001 until Punk: The Final Chapter in 2005. I have no problem with the adding of dates, but the major issue is that most of his name signatures need dates as well and I am trying to think of a way to add them without them looking ugly. –– Lid(Talk) 03:00, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

The link after "G.T.S. – Go To Sleep" doesn't seem to go to the right place in the page. I believe capitalising the 's' for 'sleep' should fix this. (Professional_wrestling_attacks#Go_2_Sleep) (90.203.60.229 (talk) 18:10, 13 February 2008 (UTC))

High importance?

I disagree here. He's a notable indy wrestler and has had two years or so in WWE. That's not enough to give him high importance, especially when an article like Dave Bautista is rated Low. Batista is probably much more well known than Punk and in my opinion (though I do dislike Batista) more important than Punk. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 18:51, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree, in fact I didn't like it getting raised to "mid" importance in the first place as I saw it as being excessive. –– Lid(Talk) 20:53, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
I was going to argue for a low importance myself. Maybe mid, but that's pushing it. Gavyn Sykes (talk)
I'm with you guys. He's getting closer to Mid, with his success in WWE, but he might still be Low. Definitely not High. - Geoffg (talk) 06:27, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Why ?

Why is there no mention of Punk cracking his skull open and refusing to take meds? I think this is important because it shows how true he is to being straight-edge and shows his dedication to it. Herotastic (talk) 03:22, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

King of the Ring

I think that in that where it says that he made it to the finals of the King of the Ring it should also be mentioned that he defeated Matt Hardy and Chris Jericho in the process. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.234.51.180 (talk) 01:00, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

"Mr. Money in the Bank"

This is awful petty on my part, but technically, CM Punk is just the current holder of the Money in the Bank case. He's not "Mr. Money in the Bank." That name was used by Rob Van Dam who was known as "Mr. Monday Night" and "Mr. Pay-Per-View" when he was actively wrestling. They used "Mr. Money in the Bank" when he won at WM 23. CM Punk isn't "Mr. Money in the Bank." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.118.80.65 (talk) 07:00, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Fourth, not third

Punk is the fourth wrestler to win the WWE/World Heavyweight and ECW Titles, not the third. Before him were RVD, Big Show, and Vince Mcmahon. (Sawyer (talk) 03:45, 1 July 2008 (UTC))

Actually he is the first to win the World Heavyweight and ECW Championship. The World Heavyweight (WWE) isn't the same titles that Big Show, RVD, and Vince held. They all held the WWE. No one before has won those two titles besides Punk.--WillC 04:15, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Aren't you both forgetting Kane? He completed that criteria before Punk, having held a WWE World Title before Punk did. But it's not really important anyways, just pointing something out.

Donco (talk) 18:36, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Kane held the WWE Championship. Not the World Heavyweight, so he would go with RVD, Show and Vince. So it is 4 to have held both WWE and ECW Championships. And 1 to hold the World and ECW championships.--DanteAgusta (talk) 20:59, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Theme Music

Why is CM Punk's WWE theme music not listed? There isn't even a section for that to be listed in his theme music area. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.201.172.139 (talk) 04:31, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes, there is a section for Theme Music, but only subsections for Full Impact Pro, Major League Wrestling, IWA Mid South, Ring of Honor, and St. Pauls Championship Wrestling. Punk's Trainers

In Punk's 'Statistics' section he is listed as having been trained by Dave Taylor, Fit Finlay and William Regal. The source for this is an interview with Punk in which he says:

'One night the crowd was down and the Smart Mark Video guys didn’t tape the show, so I told Ian [Rotten] I wanted to do a time limit draw with [Chris] Hero for the belt. He was cool with it and I told him I wanted to go an hour just to see if we could do it. Before that match we trained with Dave Taylor, Fit Finlay and William Regal to prepare for it.'

From this I get the impression that he was merely doing conditioning training, rather than being taught fundamentals of the wrestling business. Even if this isn't the case (and I appreciate my interpretation isn't the only one,) I don't believe that a very brief amount of time spent preparing for a single match (well after Punk's professional debut) constitutes 'training.' By this token, someone like Raven would also have to be cited as a 'trainer' since, according to Punk in the same interview, 'he has taught me so much. I am completely fortunate to have been taken under his wing. He will freely admit to me being his protégé... I have so much to learn and I am fortunate to have him as my teacher.'

But if you want to make note of title defences that were not really anything than you could have it worded like: "Brooks than defended the title against a number of opponents over the next few weeks. Copyedit in progress

PXK from WP:PW asked me to copyedit this article in preparation for FA status. I'll post any issues I'm not comfortable addressing here when I'm finished. --*momoricks* (talk) 23:14, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

I've finished copyediting the article. I placed inline tags next to the few things that need citations and clarification, such as jargon terms. Please remember that this is an encyclopedia that should be accessible to everyone. Jargon needs to be wikilinked, if possible, or thoroughly explained when it is used.
I did some rewording for grammar/clarity in the ROH/TNA section, so feel free to look it over to make sure it still says what it means. I noticed the section is a bit hard to get through. Perhaps splitting it up into ROH & TNA subsections would help.
Danny Dominion and Kevin Quinn are important to Punk's early career; however, they don't have articles. If someone has time to create them, that would add to this article.
Congratulations to all the contributors. This is looking good. momoricks talk 04:38, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Neither Danny Dominion nor Kevin Quinn are notable in ther own right enough for an article, they are effectively only notable for who they trained in the Steel Domain. In regards to "in preparation for FA status" I need to note this article is FA, it's just due to becomes TFA later in October. –– Lid(Talk) 05:24, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Only person to hold the WHC & ECW Championship?

"Punk became the only person to hold both the World Heavyweight and ECW Championships." Technically, I could agree as far as when the WCW World Championship became known as the World Championship - the whole Alliance Chris Jericho Undisputed angle back in 2001 - but doesn't the World Heavyweight championship legacy include WCW history? If so, then The Big Show should be included with those who won the World & ECW Championships. 65.43.96.3 (talk) 17:32, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Other than using the same design as the WCW World Championship, the World Heavyweight Championship is considered a separate title entirely. On a side note, I think the whole "only person to hold title of Promotion A and title of Promotion B" is useless trivia. Nenog (talk) 01:38, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

In my opinion, no. He wasn't active in his support. small problem here folks, the "source" that claims they were together in the first place was an unverified, anonymous rumor. neither punk nor lita ever confirmed this. also, matt hardy's comment was that he didn't know or care if they were dating, but that he didn't care either way if they were. The article's full excerpt about it: Hardy also stated that his ex-girlfriend Lita is not dating C.M. Punk. "CM Punk and Lita aren't dating right now," said Hard. "I don't have a problem with CM Punk either way, but that's not even true. They were definitely friends, hanging out for a little while, but I know they're not now."

also punk claims to have been misquoted by maxim (having trouble finding the retraction but i know there is one) and just joked about it ("dating" beth)afterward. beth also denied it more than once, saying, "we were once really close friends, but people change."

Wrist Tape

{{editsemiprotected}}

As was just revealed on WXDX today, CM Punks Wrist Tape marked with the Xs is in relation to the Straight Edge Punk Band Minor Threat, due to the fact that they were under the age of 21 when they started doing gigs and all the gigs that they could do in New York were in bars, and thus they couldn't perform as Alcohol was served. They were in turn invited to play some shows in California and were scheduled to play a bar, when they got there they thought they were not going to be able to play but the owner put X's on the back of their hands to show they were unable to drink alcohol. The band brought this back to New York and it was adopted as a symbol of the Straight Edge crowd. (Owyn999 (talk) 06:09, 24 October 2009 (UTC))

"One at a time"

Has there been any word on whether or not those "fans" he's saving "one at a time" are actual crowd members or plants? GeneticInsanity (talk) 01:33, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

I will look to see if any reliable sources know, but my guess is plants. On this weeks episode of SmackDown Punk pointed into the audience and someone about 10 rows back stood up. There was no way a real fan would have known Punk was pointing to him from that far back. TJ Spyke 01:38, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
That was my guess from the start, as I seriously doubt WWE would allow one of their employees to force a crowd member to shave their head, but some verification would be nice.GeneticInsanity (talk) 17:30, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Both James (Ted McNailer) and Serena (Serena Deeb) are prospects from OVW/FCW, so yes, they're flat-out plants. The same is likely true for any audience member Punk may shorn at house shows as WWE's been doing as well. Papacha (talk) 10:09, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

When he used the Anaconda Vise as his finisher he used the open handed slaps, spinning back fist etc. followed by a urinage. I was just wondering if they should be included in the list since he did use them at one time (urinage in 2006-early 07) and still does occasionally (open handed slaps etc.) (Younghelper33)9:58, 3 February 2010—Preceding unsigned comment added by Younghelper33 (talkcontribs) 02:56, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

I will assume you don't watch him on TV, his current gimmick is that he sees himself as a messiah basically (that it is his divinf destiny to go around saving people). Besides, you don't have to believe in something to use it in a gimmick (see when The Undertaker started becoming more satanic in 1998/1999). TJ Spyke 20:09, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Attacks on Cena

I believe the attacks on John Cena should be added to the page. That is all. 74.129.253.192 (talk) 18:02, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Weekly events shouldn't be added as they may amount to nothing. A month or two ago people added that CM Punk commentated a match with Daniel Bryan because it looked like they were gonna feud, then it was aborted as can often happen in wrestling. Until something substantial's happened, it's not notable. Tony2Times (talk) 18:20, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
I agree with Tony2Times here. ⒺⓋⒾⓁⒼⓄⒽⒶⓃ 21:13, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

He's attacked him twice in one week, you really think it shouldn't be added? Not even, "Punk turned heel on such and such date by attacking John Cena with a steel chair, then following it up with another attack the next night"? 74.129.253.192 (talk) 06:21, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Not a week ago, people were insisting he had turned face. You begin to see the problem with such edits based purely on POV and speculation? We also do not add week-by-week events. This is why it is constantly and consistently reverted. This is an encyclopedia, not a news source. ⒺⓋⒾⓁⒼⓄⒽⒶⓃ 08:19, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

In that case, someone should remove where it says "After commentating on both superstars and raw, Punk joined Nexus. 74.129.253.192 (talk) 20:51, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Edit request on 8 January 2013 In the section WWE Champion (2011–2013)

Please change "Despite his injury, Punk became the longest reigning WWE Champion on December 5, when he hit 381 days, surpassing John Cena's 380 day reign." to "Despite his injury, Punk became the longest reigning WWE Champion of the modern era on December 5, when he hit 381 days, surpassing John Cena's 380 day reign because it is not true. CM Punk, of course, is the longest reigning WWE Champion, but of the modern era, i.e., for these 25 years. Therefore, I suggest that the information should be edited and changed to avoid any kind of confusion. TheABPunk 08:03, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

I've corrected the article. NiciVampireHeart 04:09, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Notability of fan altercation

Would it be worth mentioning the time that Punk mistakenly decked the wrong fan that time he entered the stands? Comparisons could be made to the Pacers–Pistons brawl when Artest mistakenly charged someone who didn't throw a drink at him (allowing the guy who did throw the diet coke, Green, to attack him).

This may happen a lot in various sports but I imagine more often in Pro Wrestling. If not a mention on Punk's page, perhaps an article about these altercations in general (emphasis on wrestling) could be made. Ranze (talk) 22:27, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Edit Request

"Punk ... is officially recognized as the sixth-longest reigning champion of all time," actually, Punk is the FIFTH longest reigning champion, with the sixth longest reign, as Bruno Sammartino is listed twice in the top five championship reigns. So I request the edit be made to either "fifth-longest reigning champion" or "sixth-longest championship reign." Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.176.147.249 (talk) 18:07, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

CM Punk Face Turn 2013

Ever since CM Punk returned on June 16th at the WWE Pay per view Payback, he has showed signs of a face turn due to the fact that Paul Heyman disturbed Punk during his match against Chris Jericho and therefore Punk being dissapointed with Heyman. Furthermore, on the following episode of Money night Raw, Punk confronted the newly turned heel Alberto Del Rio. This further cemented Punk's face turn since it meant more dispute between Heyman and Punk, as Heyman was referring Punk to be his 'client' whereas Punk claimed that he was just Heyman's friend, which gained more of a positive reaction from e fans. Punk's face turn was mostly cemented when after the match with Del Rio, Brock Lesnar returned and attacked Punk. — Preceding unsigned comment added by The Best Dazzler (talkcontribs) 16:13, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

That constitutes original research. Seeing a move on YouTube isn't considered a reliable source. — Richard BB 22:13, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
Also keep in mind that we have a list of signature or finishing moves here, not a complete moveset. Things like vertical/snap suplexes are quite basic moves that most professional wrestlers of the last half-century commonly use. Remember, even a short match can have twenty moves, and a wrestler like Punk has 8-10 matches per month, some quite long. A match needs basic moves to fill between the opening bell, signature spots and finish. A wrestler cannot invent new moves for each match, so must repeat things like suplexes, armdrags, dropkicks and chops (among many other).
What you'll need is a source calling a move of his a signature/trademark/favourite or similar. Something like this or this. A match review from a reliable source which says something like "Punk hits his signature suplex" would also be OK. But a review which says "Punk hits a suplex" would not, even if you have a thousand of those. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:29, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Who Punk is dating

It seems that every month someone new is reported that Punk is dating. Do we really need to include this information? Whether it's Lita, someone from ROH, Lita again, and now apparently AJ, it seems we're in danger of becoming a celebrity magazine. Plus, I'm not so sure the websites, which seem to base themselves on rumour, can be considered reliable sources. Can we do away with this gossip column? — Richard BB 16:30, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

I agree. Everything without a proper source should go in the first place, but Wikipedia is not a tabloid (per WP:BLP), so every single relationship he's had shouldn't be detailed. If he's had notable long term relationships then those can probably stay.LM2000 (talk) 20:45, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Instead of all the little reports of they broke up in..., they started dating in..., because frankly we do not know exactly when, just when it was discovered/reported. Whichever relationships are sourced to have happened, we can say in the article, "Over his career Punk has dated various female wrestlers (or divas) such as __, __ and ___." That would significantly cut down on the puff that was already there. When it was removed were any of the relationships backed by reliable sources? STATic message me! 16:29, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
I agree with Static's idea. I would suppose his dating life is somewhat notable but as said above, Wikipedia is not a tabloid. Antoshi 17:02, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

One of Wikipedia's best articles? Really!?

Ya gotta be kidding? Why there's more detail in our article on Winston Churchill than I can find here on the legendary Punk. WP:DUE, broadly understood, should dictate that we need to go into far more detail on major "sports-entertainment" figures, than we do on seminal figures in world political history. Badmintonhist (talk) 21:12, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

If you have a problem with its FA status, then create an FA review. Otherwise, I don't see how coming to the article's talk page to voice your bewilderment benefits the article in any way. Antoshi 21:29, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Sounds like you should be bringing your complaints to Winston Churchill if they are lacking major details on that article. Unless you have explicit constructive suggestions, then I don't know what to tell you about this particular article. retirment

Wow, one month later and we still talking about retirment, truth or lie. This isn't speculation. CM Punk said he is retired. Also, PWInsider, a reliable source, said so. We don't judge the sources, we write what sources say. For example, Low Ki retired a few months (also, 34 years old) and now he is wrestling. Ric Flair retired in 2008 and one year later he was wrestling against Hulk Hogan in Australia. Until Punk'll return to a ring, he is retired (even if a magazine writer wants to spectulate if he isn't retired.) --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 23:26, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

PWInsider says another source says so. Why not use that actual source instead, instead of second-hand reports? Because it doesn't say this at all. A reporter asks how it feels to be retired at 35. Not "retired from wrestling". He could just as well mean how does it feel to withdraw and have your privacy and seclusion, to which "It feels good" would make a lot of sense.
When a wrestler retires in the career sense, he typically announces it, like Flair or Low-Ki did. After all these months, the only thing you have to grasp at is the implication you read in what Punk didn't challenge in one word that one reporter used, likely correctly. That's it. That should tell you something. InedibleHulk (talk) 09:03, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
We shouldn't interpretate the sources. I think the source is pretty clear, Punk is retired. PWInsider (I put PW because it's reliable) stills calling Punk as retired. Maybe we have few information, but I think it's clear about Punk's status. I mean, we have a source called "CM Punk is retired" and we say "he isn't retired". --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 11:32, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, we shouldn't. And that's what you (and all the other sources who cite the Red Eye interview) do. It's stupid to put that much weight on an ambiguous comment, especially when we have Vince McMahon making an official, straighforward, quoted statement that Punk is on a sabbatical. It's even Wikilinked in the article, but just to be clearer, it's "a rest from work, or a break, often lasting from two months to a year." Or, according to Merriam-Webster's only definition, "a period of time during which someone does not work at his or her regular job and is able to rest, travel, do research, etc." That jives with the idea that he's retired in the non-career sense, but not if he was retired like a pensioner.
But what would the guy who owns Punk's contract and runs the company know, compared to Internet recyclers and their interpretations, eh? InedibleHulk (talk) 20:37, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
PWInsider says Punk is retired. So, the article shows Punk is retired. No interpetation, source to article.
I opened a a section at the talk page in the Project. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 20:47, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
PWInsider says another source says it. It doesn't. This is clear by looking at the source PWInsider claims says it, regardless of how many times you say PWInsider says it themselves. InedibleHulk (talk) 20:49, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
However, PWInsider stills saing Punk is retired (I read a few weeks ago ina Q&A). I know the interview is ambigous, but the fact is Punk answered to the question "it's fine". It indicates Punk is retired. Maybe, the best idea is to talk about it with the poject --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 20:54, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
Keyword... "indicates"... as in not official. Until there is concrete evidence to say he is retired, InedibleHulk (talk) is right. Jeffhardyred (talk) 19:26, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
Indicate: "to show that (something) exists or is true". If you use a verb at all, "hinted" or "suggested" might be better, but we'd still have no idea if Punk intentionally hinted, or if people are reading too far into it on their own. InedibleHulk (talk) 19:59, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
UPDATE: I surrender. Another editor stuck this video in an edit summary. Though I don't believe a word of it, and think I got the joke, he did certainly say the right words. Verifiability, not truth. If anyone wants to go full-on mark, they could technically add the "never ever" part, too, and it'd all be nice and legal. InedibleHulk (talk) 09:22, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
