Talk:COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil/Archives/2020/May

Invitation to edit

You are cordially invited to edit Draft:Mismanagement of the 2019-20 COVID-19 pandemic. Calmecac5 (talk) 20:25, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

I included some topics to be covered by the Brazil section. It seems this draft is dead on arrival, though, so i won't be contributing more to it. --Hagnat (talk) 11:14, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Removing days with 0 deaths

I'm not a recurring contributor in these kinds of articles, so I'm not watching this page, but I think it would be great to remove all those days where no deaths were reported in the new deaths per day subsection. The timeline will surely expand, and it barely fits as of now, so I guess it's going to become more of a problem in the future. I'd do that myself, but I'd like to seek some consensus here. I am considering pruning the charts to only show data starting from the moment we reached 100+ confirmed cases. That would remove about two weeks worth of data, and start 3 days before the first reported death, so i would say its a nice compromise. --Hagnat (talk) 15:02, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Quality Standards review

I would like to be able to remove the {{Cleanup rewrite}} box from the top of the page. Can anyone review the article so we can remove it ? Or direct me who could review it ? --Hagnat (talk) 15:06, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

@Capewearer:

President's view

I wonder if the phrase "The view of the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, is that the risk posed by coronavirus has been exaggerated" is really needed at the beginning of the article. It gives the perception that his views when it comes to the risk of this pandemic are so important that it should be the first thing people see when reading the page, which I think is wrong given the overwhelming scientific and international standpoint towards the opposite direction on this issue. I don't intend to get into politics or anything of the sort, I just think perhaps things like this should be in their own subsection. -- Wvictor07 (talk) 14:16, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

I would say that the 2nd half of the paragraph can be moved to the Response section. His views do fuel a LOT of controversy here in the country (i am in a constant fight with my parents over fake news, some of them fueled by the president's words and/or actions), but i don't think it should be part of the article's summary --Hagnat (talk) 11:49, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
I agree with you both on the polarization such views create and the impact it has on people. I added some more details to the part I highlighted, but I'll try to move to a more specific section of the article then (I've renamed the section "Messaging" to "President's response" and added that part here). -- Wvictor07 (talk) 14:04, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

A mention of Mass graves on the 'Impact' section

Hi, I just thought that it may be worth mentioning the Brazil has been putting the bodies of their dead into mass graves, such as this one in Manaus. --- Source 1 --- https://www.thesun.ie/news/5347843/brazil-coronavirus-burial-grounds-jair-bolsonaro/. Source 2--- https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-brazil/amazon-city-resorts-to-mass-graves-as-brazil-covid-19-deaths-soar-idUSKBN22B35Z

I think it would also go to show the stark reality of the situation in Brazil and would help the readers of this article understand the situation and the methods the people in Brazil are having to resort to due to the pandemic. I'd say a short paragraph and maybe a photo about these mass graves would be informative enough. ThePaganUK (talk) 21:08, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. JTP (talkcontribs) 03:06, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

What I'm requesting is a small section on the 'impact' part of the page about the mass graves being dug in Brazil whether that be a small paragraph or photo.. I've listen 2 sources above and there is plenty of information about it here: https://www.google.com/search?q=covid+19+brazil+mass+graves&oq=co&aqs=chrome.1.69i59l2j69i57j69i60l5.5616j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 ThePaganUK (talk) 18:14, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Number of recovered cases in Pernambuco and other states

Hello everybody, the number of recovered cases in Pernambuco are outdated, also take the opportunity to check if the number of cured COVID-19 is out of date in other states. now Pernambuco has 4716 recovered according this website: [1]. Update the number of recovered cases in Pernambuco and likely in other states often, please. 177.101.162.71 (talk) 04:24, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

It should be added- The halted study about the treatment of Chloroquine for covid 19 used a dosage for the "high" treatment arm (600 mg twice daily for 10 days) that appears to exceed the recommended safety limits. 177.149.122.68 (talk) 19:24, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Remove "As with Russia, Brazil was relatively late in suffering a serious outbreak, but now has the third-most cases in the world, after the United States and Russia." and replace it with "As with Russia, Brazil was relatively late in suffering a serious outbreak, but now has the second-most cases in the world, after the United States."
