Faux amis, false friends

edit

In english, a commune means a group of people living in a group because they share the same ideology... :)))

I did some major copy-editing for syntax and clarity, if you would like to change something pls leave a message here... Baristarim 15:30, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've had to revert most of your edits. The word commune is the official name for the nature of Caen. It is blue linked and clear definition of what a french commune is can be found. I have not left a message asking you if I may do the change since there is no need to. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 16:45, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I just said that so that I can know what people would think, that's all.. I didn't want to say that people had to get permission or anything...Baristarim 16:56, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Clarity and some extra info

edit

I have also added some info about the bus verts and the museums in the castle.. Alors que pensez-vous?? Baristarim 15:41, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Information on the Bus Verts is redundant since an article already explaining the Bus Verts and Twisto's role in Caen and Calvados. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 16:45, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Bus Verts is not a part of the Twisto system... And Bus Verts is an important part of the city transport system... A person who wants to know about Caen and that comes across this article needs to know about it here, and we have no right to ask them to go to another articleBaristarim 16:56, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I am aware of the differences between Twisto (CTAC) and the Bus Verts, the article have been edited with the in mind. I have also kept your appropriate edits (rather than blindly reverting) in the transport section. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 17:23, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The article has a greater clarity now I think...

Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 16:45, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
?? How about Lower_Saxony?? If you are an anglophone, u very well know that a commune doesn't have the same meaning in English as in French.. What about Lower Normandy edits??? Baristarim 16:56, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
BTW, let's avoid saying things 'well-linked' to the rest of France, this is not a commercial.. Saying 'is connected' is 'nuff... Baristarim 15:41, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
A non-French speaking reader will have the blue link to follow. Brief explainations are tradionally not put inside braket but in comas, unlike the French wikipedia which does observe a different policy (city (region) instead of city, region). The Wikipedia naming convention does state the first administrative level should be used. City is used to describe the size of the locality whilst commune describes its status. I have not consistenly replaced city by commune, but merely reinstated commune in the title to that effect. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 17:23, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok.. I am just trying to make it more clear, that's all.. I will also take a look at the naming policy, since, I have to admit, I haven't yet taken a look... :)) cheers.. Baristarim 17:35, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wiki France

edit

Amicalement, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 16:45, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, pour motorway, pas de souci.. Baristarim 16:56, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Pls don't accuse me of trying to push a POV, ce n'est pas un article politique... Il faut qu'il y ait une traduction à coté des mots comme préfécture, it's clear that this was written by a French person, nothing wrong with that, but I am still of the opinion that the intro lacks clarity.. What about périphérique??
Cheers.. Baristarim 17:09, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Etymology

If you check wiki France, it says that Caen comes from Champ de manoeuvres, not battle field. Have modified accordingly. Hrcolyer (talk) 18:51, 30 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

"As the city of William the Conqueror, the city has inherited a magnificent heritage."

the sentence seems to break a rule my high school composition teachers taught me--it's like:"he did a magnificent doing." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.7.28.186 (talk) 07:28, 29 September 2010 (UTC) -Richard Peterson24.7.28.186 (talk) 02:06, 9 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

On the Caen page, I noticed there was a incorrect hyperlink. It was "Department Calvados". It in fact links to a page about Calvados Wine. I suggest that it should be changed to "Calvados|Calvados (Department)". WikiMaster153 (talk) 03:25, 2 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Good spot. I've mentioned it at Template talk:Infobox French commune, who should be able to fix it. Oreo Priest talk 06:46, 6 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

The section on the Second World War does not say how the Germans came to be in charge of the city, and seems to blame the Allies for all the problems rather than describing them as liberators.2A00:23C8:3B02:4E01:A4D3:F55A:1AAE:786F (talk) 08:36, 23 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
