I'd like to keep this article separate, but I am bothered by the fact that most of the references cited here are from commercial sites or puff pieces rather than any historical food references. Cleanup
editI checked all of the links over the weekend, and they all worked. I'm a little confused by the cleanup tag. I didn't see any grammatical, syntax or spelling errors. The article is easy to understand. Is there another reason for the tag - such as one of these from Wikipedia's Cleanup Page: confusing/messy articles below and explain why they need to be cleaned-up (grammar, spelling, formatting, order, copyright issues, confusion, etc.)" Mahina Lee 13:01, 16 July 2007
- The "Cake Decorating Classes" section is the most potentially problematic, due to its promotional nature.
- I mainly intended the tag to agree with the assertion above, that it would be better if "the commercial references [were] removed, and more accurate [(npov)] food history [sources were added] to replace them." [my additions]

- Thanks Quiddity! As a retired English high school teacher, I was thinking maybe I've been retired for too long lol. I think there is a tag that recommends citation changes?

- As far as clean up goes there wasn't much. Whoever wrote the mass of this was very literate. However, I noticed a new British spellings of words that I altered and Americanized. This included the royal icing being the main form of decoration, however in present day America, buttercream is the most popular. Graceriverssss (talk) 15:25, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
History
editThis is regarding the history section of the Cake Decorating article. While a Nightowl Books sales page that describes the historical book mentioned in the article probably isn't the most authoriative source available, I don't see any problems with the usage of the other sources cited in the history section. The FOOD Museum Online is a not-for-profit (501) educational organization. Wilton Industries, while commercial, is a viable source having been the industry leader for over three quarters of a century. A history section on cake decorating would be remiscent to not include Wilton, but perhaps there is a more authoritative source for the section cited. Answers.com turns out to be an online dictionary that provides free access to topics from notable publishers. The article cited from here, "Flour and other Grain Mill Products" is provided, word for word, by the Gale Encylopedia of American Industries. Haven't checked the rest of the article yet. Cake decorating classes rewrite?
editThis section seems very unencyclopedic - I propose a significant rewrite that would cut the content right down and concentrate on methods of cake decorating rather than lists of where people might take classes in North America. I'd also get rid of the Wilton focus which seems entirely unencyclopedic and violates due weight. Does that sound reasonable? -- SiobhanHansa 11:52, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

editThis part looks very much like "Donna Horn" or a friend of hers has simply added it to the list to get more recognition for it; it seems very unencyclopedic. I don't know enough about cake decorating to tell; is this a method used often? Is Donna Horn well-known in cake decorating? - She doesn't seem to be particularly notable - nor does the method. It was tagged for a citation for a while but none materialized so I deleted. I also deleted the media section which was lacking in substance, covered only a US perspective, was poorly sourced and seemed to mainly promote a few minor or non-notable individuals. -- SiobhanHansa 20:44, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
