   Speaking as a physicist, I admit that each of the above (and not just the obvious) also relies on "friction-mediated arrest". However, they exploit that phenomenon -- as do walking, (in practice) sex, and let's see ...... oh, yeah, standing on level surfaces (not to mention climbing, and picking up most objects). But that point does also help to suggest to thoughtful users why the geometric similarities of tweezers and calipers are not accidental, and thus why these otherwise disparate topics are not actually that random. I mention that, not to urge broad conceptualization by others (valuable to society, even tho beyond the ken of that monster in the White House), but to emphasize that such coincidences are fundamental to life, the universe, and anything else that floats your boat. Oh, yeah, and to the purposes of a 'pedia.
