Talk:Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Temporary infobox picture

edit

The actual cover art for Black Ops 4 probably won't be revealed until May 17, during the reveal event. I can upload the four orange bars insignia (it's in the Public Domain) and put that in the infobox for now. Not sure if it would be better for it to have a black background or a transparent one, though. Aria1561 (talk) 03:23, 9 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

"first CoD to not be released on Steam"

edit

The article currently states:

"It is also the first Call of Duty game since Call of Duty 3 to not be released on Steam, but rather through Blizzard Entertainment's Battle.net platform exclusively."

I don't see how this is a correct sentence. CoD 3 was never released on PC, so isn't it obvious that it isn't on Steam? Every single Call of Duty game ever made is on Steam, from the first Call of Duty ever made all the way to WWII. CoD 3 was never even considered for PC, so therefore, it's not a PC game and of course it isn't on Steam.

I think "since Call of Duty 3" should be removed from this sentence since CoD 3 isn't even a PC game in the first place. It's pointless to even talk about it when discussing PC gaming at all.

The problem is we write for a general audience. Distinctions like that aren't made. BO4 is not "the first COD not released on Steam". It could be said to be "the first PC release of a COD game not on Steam". But I would suggest going the other route, and focusing on the DRM aspect. "It will be the first Call of Duty release on PC to not require Steam since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. -- ferret (talk) 21:11, 30 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ok fine. So let's change it to either "the first PC release of a COD game not on Steam" or "It will be the first Call of Duty release on PC to not require Steam since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" and get rid of the mention of CoD 3 in either case. Again, CoD 3 isn't even a PC game, why are we discussing it when talking about PC gaming?

Change

Engine IW Engine

to

Engine Treyarch Engine

I've worked at Treyarch for 15 years and we've never once called it the IW Engine. Now, would IW call it the IW Engine since our code paths diverged in 2007 and little has been done to keep them synchronized. Over the course of development we've altered more than 90% of the code base. If it is accurate to call it the IW Engine, then you should simply redub all of it, including IW's pages, as the Quake 3 Engine. 64.111.160.21 (talk) 02:55, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

I think the sentence "The game also introduces a battle royale mode called Blackout, which features up to 100 players in each match. Many characters from this and other Black Ops titles can be used as the player's character model in this mode." should be changed to, "The game also introduces a battle royale mode called Blackout, which features around 100 players in each match. Many characters from this and other Black Ops titles can be used as the player's character model in this mode."

Not done: Don't see this as an improvement. "up to 100" is specific and accurate. "around 100" is vague and could mean more than 100. -- ferret (talk) 13:18, 7 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Is This Game A Prequel To Black Ops 3?

edit

Yes of course it is a prequel To Black ops 3. Since The Game sets in 2045 and follows specialists with their backstory on specialists HQ. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hochbahn2000s (talkcontribs) 08:21, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Microtransactions section

edit

@Ferret: Hi, I wrote the prose of the microtransactions section a while back, which I think explains the criticism towards in them in sufficient detail, but I keep feeling like it's too large and needs to be significantly trimmed; it's twice the length of the Critical Response. The problem though is that I fear important info would get removed, and unfortunately Forbes and Eurogamer are the only two reliable third-party sources that touched upon them, so the section did end up being a bit lengthy. Can you alleviate my concerns and confirm whether or not everything is fine to keep? -- Wikibenboy94 (talk) 14:35, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Microtransaction section is fine. It's the critical reception section that needs expansion. Only four major reviews covered is really low for a game like this. -- ferret (talk) 14:40, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Remove single player from Modes under Quick Facts as there is no single player mode. EMason0321 (talk) 08:37, 5 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi. As stated in the edit summary, Zombies -- Usually multiplayer -- can also be played solo, and the Specialist HQ, even if a tutorial, is also singleplayer. LVDP01 (talk) 12:53, 10 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Black Ops 4 Campaign

edit

It's not known by many people, but multiple builds of BO4's campaign have been leaked onto the internet. They reveal many things about the game, mostly about the story and gameplay mechanics, and also that the 2v2 campaign was internally called a Career. This is all documented on the COD Wiki[1]

The only "respected" source to mention this was Eurogamer, who revealed the mode was originally called Career way back in early 2018[2]

Since no one has really picked up the story, what's the best way to go about expanding the "Development" section? I don't think the COD Wiki can really be used as a source, and the only public video of the campaign I'm aware of is on a sketchy reupload website[3] 110.21.61.79 (talk) 04:35, 1 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
