Okinawa wants all Yankees gone
editThe Okinawa people hate the Yankees very much and want them gone from their island asap. Kissinger 05:00, 21 December 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zio jew (talk • contribs)
- I'm personally sad to hear you feel that way, Kissinger. I've had many pleasant experiences with the local residents during my time there, and look back fondly on the experience. I'm very proud that I was able to immerse myself in a culture so different from my own, and I do wish to get the chance to visit it again at some point in the future. It really was, and is a wonderful place. Many of the men and women that I worked with attempted to honor the traditions and culture of the Island of Okinawa, and the county of Japan at large as best as we were able, while still maintaining a Military presence keeping with the discipline that we were expected to maintain. I hope that if nothing else, you base your opinion on personal experiences of interacting with Military Personnel, Contractors, etc. and not solely on what you are told at rallies, or read in the newspaper. It's really easy to demonize people you have never met or even spoken to, when you do that you don't need to put a face on the anger you have towards something.
- Conversely, it can be incredibly difficult for foreigners to fully grasp the amount of importance that is placed on the level of respect to cultural values and religious norms by Okinawans, and I personally believe that because of this, it is then far too easy for foreigners - especially young, inexperienced, and impulsive people - to end up offending someone without realizing it. To be clear, this isn't an excuse or apology for previous actions, offenses, or crimes that have occurred in Okinawa, but I do sincerely hope that you can accept that there are differences between each culture, and that because of these differences, miscommunications and problems can sometimes happen because of it. Citation Needed tag, Man Camp
editI have added a citation needed tag to the opening sentence mentioning the nickname "Man Camp". I was stationed at Camp Schwab for approximately 2 years around the 2010 era and never heard this nickname mentioned. Does anyone have additional information to this claim?
