Does everyone like the way in which I presented them? ^_^ I'm wondering if when we get to the Finals, they should be above the Semifinals or below? I would say below, to stick with the chronological order. That's just me though. I'm interested in any input.--Cinemaniac86Oy_gevalt. 12:49, 26 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Content Format

edit

This season's page has more detailed content than previous seasons and thus doesn't lend itself well to the format of previous years' pages (which are not consistent anyway). Some of the previous conventions of mixing contestant information, performance summaries, episode result information, and rankings, all into one section are better suited to presentations with more skeletal content. Please discuss differing opinions before making major structural changes to the document.

Thanks.

Elimination Chart

edit

Using gender-specific background colors (cyan/pink) for "bottom 3" designations for the semifinals was a necessary convention when the performance groups were split by gender -- not the case this season. Using this convention for the finals, has never been appropriate. The gender color as the background to the contestant's name is sufficient for communicating gender and would be redundant elsewhere.

Also, using "Btm 3" and "Btm 2" for indicating vote ranking (when its revealed in the results show by sending a bottom 3 contestant "back to the couch" before announcing the eliminated contestant among the bottom 2) is the usual convention and more descriptive than subtle background color variations.

The way the elimination chart is display on the American Idol 7 article, is a way that I find helpful and informing. The way it is displayed on this article doesn't show who was safe first and second, and doesn't help to inform the reader of that. Therefor, I would much rather have it the same way that it is shown on the American Idol 7 article. Anthonyd3ca (talk) 03:50, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

It does show who was "safe first and second" using the more universally accepted and used convention of "bottom 3" and "bottom 2" – which is also the way fans of the show and the media refer to the rankings when discussing the show. Thus, "safe first" and "safe second" are awkward and artificial constructions, not readily obvious to most, and thus not the best way to communicate this information. Furthermore, subtle gradations of colour are not strong enough visual cues for communicating information – particularly without the supporting labels (e.g., "Btm 2") – and besides not being noticed by most readers, is insensitive to those with even minor colour blindness or slight visual impairment. For these reasons, I believe it's most appropriate to leave it as is.
